Appetite for Good, in partnership with Los Altos Mountain View Community Foundation, recently received two dozen viable applicants to our new Food Resiliency fund (learn more at appetiteforgood.org), and we are oversubscribed. Help us help more restaurants, and more families in need, with a donation by Tuesday, November 9 https://tinyurl.com/srecusjz
Our applicants are all independent restaurants, supporting our city for an average of over 10 years, and some more than 20. Virtually all are owned and/or managed by people of color, women, and/or immigrants, and many are family owned. Most have suffered ongoing pandemic losses of 20% or more, and many over 30%. But most have refused to let much of their staff go, and have been holding on--many while helping hungry families by donating meals.
Here are some of our applicant's stories:
"In 2020, while it was difficult, we continued to do what we could and donated over 2000 meals to local healthcare workers and first responders. Throughout the pandemic, we have also tried our best to keep our employees employed. However, with the ongoing pandemic, we have seen our sales continue to fall further."
"COVID-19 has affected everyone's life, but we are still trying to carry on. We also provide low-cost lunch boxes for non-profit organizations."
"We kept paying employees throughout all our closures."
"This will help keep our staff employed, help fight for the high food inflation, and raise working wages for our staff which will help us get over this labor shortage phase."
Like previous A4G programs, our restaurants receive a one time cash flow boost, and in return, provide gift certificates to feed families in need through our partner, Community Services Agency.
