Voices of Impact: Christina on the Lifeline of Outreach and the Meaning of Home
When we head out every Wednesday evening, our mission goes far beyond handing out
meals, water, or basic supplies-it's about building relationships and walking alongside our neighbors. To understand the true power of consistent outreach, we sat down with Christina, a formerly unhoused community member who shared her story and perspective with us.
She explained that outreach connected her not only to basic necessities, but also to the resources that helped her move forward. “Without outreach, I wouldn’t have gotten the assessment. I wouldn’t be housed. I wouldn’t have my voucher and all that stuff. Outreach gives you the resources. It gives you the tools that you need. But more than that, it builds connection.”
Her experience is a powerful reminder that housing is more than a building or an address. It is a transition that can require continued support, connection, and community. As Christina puts it “Outreach isn’t just about getting somebody housed. It’s about helping somebody survive long enough to get there. And then, when they do get housed, it’s about helping them learn how to stay there. It’s about connection. It’s about family. It’s about having somebody there that you can trust.”
Christina's journey is a powerful reminder of why we serve every single week, and why bringing Eden Village of Louisville to life is so critical. Consistent outreach builds the trust that opens doors, but permanent, supportive housing is what turns the page for good.
