Friends of Mt. Vernon Trees Volunteers caring for and building the tree canopy in Mount Vernon, Indiana. Join us in building a community around our city's trees!

The City of Mount Vernon received a IDNR Inflation Reduction Act grant ($212,800) to build a Community Forestry Program over the next three years. What to expect and opportunities to get involved::

*City-wide tree inventory
*Community education on trees and tree care
*Tree planting projects in Census Tract 407 - 200 trees in 3 years
*and more!

***********Water Alert***********
We are having a dry spring. All those beautiful trees we planted in the fall and this spring need TLC. If you are one of those individuals, please deeply water your trees so the roots get watered. You can take a hose and allow a slow drip or flow so the water penetrates the ground down to the roots.

Oh no!!!! We did not give all our free trees away today. Tomorrow, please visit the WillowTree Awareness event at Brittlebank Park from noon- 5 pm. They will have the remainder of our free trees.

Calling all Master Gardeners. The Purdue Extension in charge of volunteering has indicated that hours assisting the City of Mount Vernon, IN Tree Board can be considered volunteer hours.

We have 2 events currently:
Free tree give away this Saturday from 10-2 at Riverbend Park and Willow Tree in Brittlebank Park.
Tree planting. Currently we are planting 8 trees respectively on Monday, April 20 and Wednesday April 22.

Any and all volunteers would be welcome at both events.
