As I’ve been researching potential speakers and teachers for the Skagit Valley Writers League’s 2026 season, I’ve run into a surprising—and honestly, avoidable—problem: a staggering number of author websites are wildly out of date.I’m not talking about a missing blog post or a quiet mont...

🐾 Meet Scarlett: Chesterville’s Most Opinionated Resident
From the pages of Beyond the Bridge by Martin Singer
📚 Library cat. Storm survivor. Reluctant legend.
Scarlett isn’t just a cat—she’s a force. Miles found her in a storm and named her Storm… until he learned she was already known as Scarlett, the Chesterville Library’s longtime feline fixture.
👩‍🏫 Trisha adores her. Luka fears her.
Trisha calls her “my little archivist.” Luka suspects she’s the reincarnation of an ex-boyfriend. Scarlett? She just wants the desk back.
👮‍♂️ She talks to Deputy Miles Johnson. A lot.
When Miles is torn between two librarians, it’s Scarlett who listens. And judges. Loudly.
🕯️ Guardian? No. Observer? Absolutely.
She’s not one of Chesterville’s guardians—but she’s seen things. She remembers. She watches. And she naps.
💬 Scarlett says:
“Don’t trust what’s written. Trust what’s whispered. And if you see me watching you from the library window… ask yourself what you’ve forgotten.”
