Volunteering as a strategy for the common good. Governments are at their strongest when they treat volunteers as their essential partners.

In the Philippines, the PPhilippine National Volunteer Service Coordinating Agencyis leading the way with its assessment of the VIDA program, using a "public value lens" to measure how community-based volunteering drives societal impact.

This is how data helps us make smarter, more inclusive decisions for development.

As the world population ages, with 1 in 5 people projected to be over 65 by 2070, governments are seeking new ways to support healthy, active ageing.

International Labour Organization and paper takes a closer look at how volunteer work among older persons contributes to well-being and how policies can make volunteering a core part of ageing strategies.

Reviewing data from 50 countries, it shows that two-thirds already include volunteerism in their national ageing plans. A strong step toward keeping older persons active, connected, and valued.

about CLIMATE action and volunteering.

The is one of the greatest challenges of our time. Rising seas, stronger storms, and longer droughts are already reshaping lives everywhere.

But here’s the good news: volunteers turn climate challenges into action! Need some examples?

🔹 Climate justice: Volunteers have long supported climate justice! Youth movements, legal advocates, and local activists all show how voices from the ground can drive change.

🔹 Knowledge and data: Volunteers map coastlines, track air quality, and monitor deforestation with simple tech or without. Their work provides vital, low-cost data to help communities plan solutions and protect resources.

🔹 Policy participation: Volunteers also open doors for dialogue between people and decision-makers. By linking local voices with scientific evidence, they help shape policies that are fair, inclusive, and grounded in lived experience.

And their work is not risk-free. Around the world, environmental defenders face shrinking civic space and even personal risks.

They show that real climate action starts with people and grows when we act together!
