In addition to adoption and transfers, we also work to increase legislation for animals to have a better life through spay/neuter and promoting responsible ownership. Mayberry4Paws - a 501 c 3 non-profit CANINE ONLY rescue group - works to subsidize the cost of spaying and neutering pets in economically disadvantaged households. The ultimate goal is to reduce the number of dogs/cats entering the

Surry County Animal Shelter and reduce the number of pets killed there. We have a puppy to rescue group program wherein if the owner sends all puppies of a litter to rescue we will spay/neuter the parents at no cost to the owners. We incorporate a fostering network into our mission to keep dogs safe while they await their transport to their permanent rescue placement and later, adoption. Fostering further reduces the number of dogs killed at the Surry County Animal Shelter.

APOLLO UPDATE

This sweet boy captured the hearts of many when his time was up at Surry County Animal Control. So many of you shared his post and pledged donations in hopes that a rescue might be able to pull him to safety.

We thank everyone who contributed to his FREEDOM! After Transport Volunteer Julie drove him to meet the driver for the receiving rescue, he settled in nicely into his new digs. As you can see in the pics here, he is very happy to be living the life in his Virginia German Shepherd Rescue foster home.

When we come together as a community, great things can happen!

TRANSPORT NEEDED

This sweet older man is in need of a ride to Troutville. He is currently at Surry County Animal Control and will be headed to Virginia German Shepherd Rescue.

Our usual transport base isn’t able to cover this transport, so we are looking for someone in our community that might be able to help.

Please reach out if you can assist! Driving a Freedom Ride is extremely fulfilling, knowing you helped save a life!

Carley is still desperately seeking a home....

This girl is house trained, has excellent behavior, and loves everyone, both human and dogs. She is up to date on basic vaccines and has been spayed.

Due to no fault of her own, she needs a new home ASAP! Her owner has a limited amount of time to find the perfect home and have elicited out help.

Although she's the perfect doorbell, letting you know when someone arrives, she settles quickly and marks all the boxes on good behavior.

Sherlock (also known as Max - he likes that name better) took his ride up to Canada overnight and is about to cross the border and meet his new family! If you’ll recall, Sherlock came to us with wounds and muscle damage that left him essentially paralyzed and unable to urinate on his own. After anti-inflammatories, pain medication, antibiotics and crate rest he quickly became the dog he is today. We are so grateful to the vet staff who helped him recover through their medical care.

Of course, big thanks goes to Niagara Dog Rescue for helping so many of our needy Surry County dogs and finding them excellent homes!

This picture is from last night when his Foster Mom Abbye drove him to meet the transport coming into Mt. Airy on its way up north. He travelled up with his favorite stuffy 🙂 it’s well loved!
