Mayberry 4 Paws Mayberry4Paws, a 501c3 nonprofit, that works to help needed dogs in Surry County. WHEN CONTACTING US VIA PHONE - PLEASE ONLY TEXT

In addition to adoption and transfers, we also work to increase legislation for animals to have a better life through spay/neuter and promoting responsible ownership. Mayberry4Paws - a 501 c 3 non-profit CANINE ONLY rescue group - works to subsidize the cost of spaying and neutering pets in economically disadvantaged households. The ultimate goal is to reduce the number of dogs/cats entering the Surry County Animal Shelter and reduce the number of pets killed there. We have a puppy to rescue group program wherein if the owner sends all puppies of a litter to rescue we will spay/neuter the parents at no cost to the owners. We incorporate a fostering network into our mission to keep dogs safe while they await their transport to their permanent rescue placement and later, adoption. Fostering further reduces the number of dogs killed at the Surry County Animal Shelter.

Some of you may remember little Lizzie, our parvo puppy who came into our rescue with her mother, who we affectionately call Mimi Jo.

Little Lizzie completed her post parvo infection quarantine a while ago and moved to Freedom Ride Rescue. She is THRIVING there and we couldn’t be happier for her!

So many thanks goes out to the multiple vet staffs who saw Lizzie as a patient while she was battling her active Parvovirus, as well as to Freedom Ride Rescue who gave her a soft place to land. Check out these sweet photos of Lizzie, including one where she transformed into a little busy bee for a Halloween themed adoption event.

We also want to take time to thank everyone who shared Lizzie and Mimi Jo’s posts and everyone who was able to donate toward their medical care. We realize that when the vet bills get high some will question why our rescue would be willing to invest so much money into just two lives. For us, it’s always worth the effort and we truly appreciate everyone who helped out in the various ways they did. Lizzie and her mother are alive today because of everyone involved, and that includes our wonderful followers/supporters. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Be on the lookout for an update on Mimi Jo, who is now in foster with our Executive Director, Rachel. She is coming out of her shell more and more everyday and is really enjoying life outside of the quarantine kennel and her new foster brothers!

⚠️ Personal space is appreciated. When Jett gets overstimulated, he sometimes uses his teeth to communicate that he's had enough. He's working on his customer service skills, but we believe in full disclosure. 😂

👶 Children? He respectfully declines. Jett has been known to use his mouth to correct behavior he doesn't appreciate. Since kids aren't exactly famous for respecting personal boundaries, Jett needs an adult-only home.

Here's the thing: Jett isn't a bad dog. He's a good dog who knows what he likes, what he doesn't, and isn't afraid to express his opinions! 😂

He needs someone who understands canine body language, respects his boundaries, and appreciates a little dog with a whole lot of personality.

Calling all pet lovers...

Army veteran who served for more than 20 years is now in hospice. Her beloved dogs will be left behind. 💔

SFC Juanita Overbay was awarded a meritorious Bronze Star during her time in the service. I have not been able to ascertain how she earned that as of yet.

She is just 62 years old and has lung cancer and COPD.

Her niece lives in Bristol, TN. Juanita’s dogs are in Pilot Mountain, NC. The family can help transport, but unfortunately they are unable to take the two large dogs.

Her niece told me Juanita has done animal rescue and volunteered helping with animals a lot of her life. She has always taken in big dogs because she said they were harder to find home for.

The dogs are Moose and Sissy. Brother and sister. German Shepard, boxer mixes. They do not have bite history. Moose the boy is very lovable and friendly and loves to play. The girl -Sissy she is very shy and runs. Once Sissy gets comfortable with a person she will come to them and love on them but she is really nervous until she does.

The family is trying their best to keep them together because they have been together since birth. Also, Moose helps with Sissy’s anxiety because he is familiar to her.

Please contact us if you would like to help these two precious dogs. We will be processing adoption applications to help them find new homes. There is no adoption fee, but an adopter will be expected and required to bring them up to date on any needed vetting and keep them up to date going forward.

It's adoptable companion time!

Today's feature is of the perfect size as he's not too big and not too small. He's an all around wonderful dog!

Weighing in at 30lb, Rambo is a 6 year old mix breed. He came from a feral colony and has been in foster care learning how to be the bestest boy.

He's house and crate trained. He's a medium energy dog and allergies that are controlled with diet and meds. He loves other dogs and does best when he's with another dog but he is also capable of just being your best friend.

Rambo does require a fenced in yard that isn't easy to escape. He also would benefit from the fence being attached to the house so he can just go right out the door, into the fenced in yard, but it is not required.

This boy is looking for his forever home, through no fault of his own. Due to the increasing age of his owners, and his "horse size", they're hoping we can help find him a home better able to handle him.

He is a community dog that we are helping facilitate the adoption for. He is NOT one of our dogs and therefore, the adoption would be between current owner and new owner. If you're interested in adopting Benji, message us now.

Because he’s not in our care, we are simply sharing him on our page in hopes that he finds a great home. We will be having interested people fill out an adoption application, which we will process and discuss with his current owner/caretaker. An approved adopter will not have to pay a rehoming fee but will be required to get him neutered/microchipped and to continue with all regular vetting and monthly prevention meds.
