Dolly Parton was born in the hills of East Tennessee and carried Appalachia with her everywhere she went. She took the stories, struggles, faith, humor, music, and resilience of mountain people and shared them with the entire world, without ever forgetting where she came from.

Her life was proof that our heritage is not something to be ashamed of or left behind. It is something to preserve, celebrate, and pass down.

From a humble cabin in the Smoky Mountains to stages around the world, Dolly remained unmistakably Appalachian. She understood the value of hard work, family, generosity, storytelling, and lifting others up. Through her music, philanthropy, literacy efforts, and love for her home, she gave back to the people and places that shaped her.

At Appalachian Farm Arts Heritage Foundation, we believe in preserving the traditions and stories of this region for future generations. Dolly Parton did exactly that in her own extraordinary way, showing the world that Appalachia is rich with talent, creativity, strength, and heart. If you visit our website, you may also notice a small tribute to Dolly. It is our own quiet way of honoring a woman who never forgot her Appalachian roots and who helped ensure that the rest of the world would never overlook them, either.

Her voice may now be silent, but the mountains she loved will continue to echo with her legacy.

Rest easy, Dolly. Thank you for never letting the world forget where you came from. πŸ¦‹πŸ”οΈπŸͺ•

What a successful day at our Pickling & Fermentation Workshop! πŸ₯’πŸ₯•πŸ₯¬

We pickled a little bit of everything, from cabbage and cucumbers to carrots and even rhubarb! It was a day full of hands-on learning, good conversation, and plenty of jars being filled.

A special thank you to Sharon for sharing so much of her knowledge and information during the fermentation portion of our workshop. We are incredibly grateful for the expertise you brought to the class and for helping participants learn more about this traditional preservation method!

πŸ’‘ Also, a reminder about our "Teach a Class, Get a Class" opportunity! If you are an expert or experienced in a particular heritage skill, homesteading practice, craft, or other field and would be interested in teaching a workshop, we would love to hear from you! Reach out to us to learn more about teaching opportunities with the Appalachian Farm Arts Heritage Foundation.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make another workshop a success! We can't wait to see you at the next one! 🌱
