💜 **INTERNATIONAL OVERDOSE AWARENESS DAY — AUGUST 31** 💜

International Overdose Awareness Day is a time to remember those we have lost, support individuals and families affected by overdose, and raise awareness about overdose prevention.

Overdose affects individuals, families, friends, and entire communities. By increasing awareness, reducing stigma, learning about prevention resources, and supporting those who need help, we can all play a role in creating safer and healthier communities.

Today and every day, let's remember those we've lost, support those who are struggling, and continue working together to prevent overdose.

💜 **Remember. Educate. Support. Prevent.**

💜 Opioid Misuse Prevention & Overdose Awareness

August 31 is International Overdose Awareness Day — a time to remember those whose lives have been lost to overdose, support individuals and families impacted by substance use, and share information that can help save lives.

Opioid overdose can happen to anyone. Prescription opioids, illicit opioids such as he**in, and illegally manufactured fentanyl can all cause overdose by slowing the body’s breathing to dangerous levels.

Knowing how to respond can make a difference. Recognize the signs of an opioid overdose:

-Unresponsive or unable to wake
-Slow, shallow, or stopped breathing
-Pinpoint pupils
-Pale, gray, or bluish skin, lips, or fingernails
-Choking, gurgling, or snoring-like sounds

If you suspect an overdose, call 911, administer naloxone (Narcan) if available, and stay with the person until help arrives. Naloxone can rapidly reverse an opioid overdose and save a life.

At Community Service, Inc., prevention is about more than raising awareness. It’s about giving individuals, families, and communities the knowledge and resources they need to make healthier, safer choices.

This Overdose Awareness Day, take time to learn the signs, know how to respond, and know where to find naloxone. One informed person can make a lifesaving difference. 💜

🌟 **PREVENTION IN ACTION** 🌟

**AWARENESS. CONNECTION. ACTION.**

Prevention starts when we become aware of the challenges facing our community. It grows when we connect with one another. And it makes a difference when we take action.

💡 **BUILD AWARENESS** — Learn the facts and share reliable information.

🤝 **BUILD CONNECTION** — Check in with a friend, family member, neighbor, or someone who may need support.

🙌 **TAKE ACTION** — Get involved, support prevention efforts, and help connect others with resources.

Every conversation matters.
Every connection matters.
Every action matters.

💙 **Together, we can build stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.**

**What will you do today to make a difference?**

School Crosswalk Safety

As students head back to school, crosswalks become some of the busiest—and most important—areas on our roads.

Drivers: Slow down near schools, stay alert for children crossing, and yield at crosswalks. Never pass a vehicle stopped at a crosswalk; a child may be crossing where you cannot see them.

Students and families: Use designated crosswalks, follow crossing-guard and traffic-signal instructions, and look left-right-left before crossing. Keep phones and distractions away until you are safely across the street.

A few extra seconds of attention can help every student arrive safely—at school and back home.

🏘️ **COMMUNITY READINESS STARTS WITH US**

A community that is ready to address challenges is a community that is connected, informed, and willing to take action.

Whether we're working to prevent substance misuse, support mental wellness, promote healthy choices, or create safe spaces for young people, everyone has a role.

💡 **This week, take one step toward a healthier community:**

✅ Start a conversation
✅ Share a prevention resource
✅ Check in on someone you care about
✅ Support a local organization
✅ Encourage positive choices

**Awareness creates understanding. Action creates change.**

Together, we can build stronger and healthier communities.

🎓 Awareness. Prevention. Education.

As students head back to college, conversations about substance use and fentanyl awareness are more important than ever. We can’t assume our young people know the risks—we have to talk to them.

Today’s counterfeit pills and other substances can look harmless, familiar, or even like candy, but they may contain fentanyl or other dangerous substances.

Talking with kids and college students isn’t about judgment—it’s about giving them the information they need to make informed choices and recognize when something could be dangerous.

💬 Have the conversation.
🧠 Know the risks.
💙 Carry Naloxone.
🛡️ Prevention can save a life.

Let’s make sure our young people know that asking questions, looking out for their friends, and reaching out for help are signs of strength—not weakness.
One conversation could save a life.
