🍂 Introducing the Library's very first Halloween Boo-tique! 🎃👻

Help us make Halloween a little more magical for our community!

From September 19–October 2, we're collecting clean, gently used Halloween costumes and accessories for all ages to stock our Halloween Boo-tique—a free community costume shop at the library.

We're looking for:
🧙 Costumes for kids, teens, and adults
🎭 Masks, hats, wigs, capes, and other costume accessories
✨ Dress-up items in clean, gently used condition

Drop off your donations at the Southern Pines Public Library during regular library hours.

Then, join us for the Halloween Boo-tique on Tuesday, October 6, from 4:00–6:30 PM, where everyone is welcome to browse and take home a costume that's new to them—free of charge!

Whether you're clearing out last year's costume or helping another family celebrate Halloween, your donation can make a big difference.

Let's give costumes a second life and make Halloween fun for everyone!

📚🍂 Our Community Homeschool Resource Swap is back — already!

After the incredible turnout and feedback from our first county-wide swap, we knew families wanted another opportunity to share resources, save money, and help one another. This time, we’re welcoming families from across the Sandhills region!

But this resource swap is truly powered by community. The more that is donated, the more we can put back into the hands of local families — while continuing to build our free Lending Library for year-round use. ❤️

Today, we join so many around the world in remembering Dolly Parton and celebrating the legacy she leaves behind.

Dolly believed deeply in children, in possibility, and in giving people opportunities to live a life filled with hope and dreams for the future. Through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, she turned that belief into action, putting books into the hands and homes of millions of young children around the world.

Sometimes, it’s the simplest moments that build lifelong well-being and help children feel loved, connected, and like they belong: bedtime stories that become family traditions, laughing together, having a caring adult who listens, or being encouraged to dream big. Through the Imagination Library, Dolly helped make more of those moments possible for children and families everywhere.

Today, we celebrate her life, her generosity, and a legacy that will continue helping children live a purposeful life filled with hope for the future.

Thank you, Dolly. 🦋

EdZooCation Mondays are so fun for us and we are always thrilled to see familiar faces as well as new ones! We appreciate each of you for choosing to spend your time with us.

Classes are held each Monday at 1:00 pm, weather permitting, until early November. We meet under the pavilion (beside the giraffes) for an interactive lesson that lasts approximately one hour. Classes are included with admission and annual memberships, and registration/sign-up is not required.

The best part of EdZooCation Mondays is the engagement and curiosity from the kids! We want to take that a step further: each week we would like to give young learners the opportunity to be the teacher. We will provide the topic to research at home and the following Monday, your child can use our NEW MICROPHONE to share what they learned and teach a short lesson. (This is totally optional and meant to be a fun way to build confidence, practice speaking, and to dig deeper into a subject they find interesting.) The topic for Monday 8/31 is lizards. If your child is interested in researching and teaching about a specific lizard found here at the park, please have them choose one from the list below. Send us a Facebook message with your child’s name and lizard choice and they will be all set to teach Monday! (Please note most lizards will be enclosed and observed but not handled.)

Thank you all so much and we look forward to seeing you Monday!

Lizard choices for 8/31:
🦎 Ornate Uromastyx
🦎 Bearded Dragon
🦎 Iguana
🦎 Frilled Dragon
🦎 Tegu
🦎 Day Gecko
🦎 Leaf Gecko
🦎 Crested Gecko
🦎 Gila Monster
🦎 Crocodile Monitor
🦎 Mexican Beaded Lizard
🦎 European Glass (Legless) Lizard
🦎 Argus Monitor
🦎 Keeled Lizard
🦎 Indonesian Sailfin Dragon
🦎 Caiman Lizard
🦎 Savannah Monitor
🦎 Asian Water Monitor
