Congratulations to Tuscaloosa Police Department CIT Program for receiving the 2026 RESPECT Award. This award is given by the Alabama Dept of Mental Health at the annual AIR Conference. The recipients are chosen by a panel of mental health peers. Criteria is a person or organization that shows respect, understanding, support, etc. to the mental health community in Alabama. During the program's 40 hr training there is a module for peers and family members to share their stories. Tuscaloosa CIT has gone above and beyond by including someone with lived experience as a State Trainer who participates in the entire 40 hr training. This program has embraced the unofficial motto of Alabama peers "Nothing about us without us". They do not simply do trainings about mental health peers, they do trainings With peers. Congratulations!!! Well deserved.

The Veterans Mental Health Steering Committee announced a grant program that will give Alabama veterans 24/7, year-round access to mental health support.

Uwill, a national mental health and wellness platform, will administer the program, providing immediate, confidential mental health and wellness support to Alabama’s veterans.

The company developed the first individual and therapist matching platform, offering immediate appointments with licensed counselors, teletherapy, crisis connection, on-demand medical care, prescription management, wellness programming, realtime data and support.

The program is funded by Act 2024-426, signed into law by Governor Kay Ivey. The law set aside $3 million for pilot programs to support veterans’ behavioral health needs. Funding was awarded through a competitive application process and is intended to help fill gaps in services and expand access to care for veterans across Alabama.
