🇺🇸🎶 History You Can Hear 🎶🇺🇸

Captain William Bibb Chapter had a meaningful week of fellowship, learning, and service as we gathered for our monthly meeting and participated in the Chronicle of America event in Prattville.

We were especially inspired by a fascinating presentation from Calvin Chappelle on the role of music in wartime. It was a reminder that even in the most difficult moments of our nation’s history, rhythm and song helped bring order, communication, and encouragement to those in service. From drum calls used during the American Revolution to the enduring traditions that remain today, music has long been a steady companion to those who serve.

We are grateful for opportunities like these to deepen our understanding of the past while connecting with our community in meaningful ways.

🇺🇸 As we look ahead to America 250, moments like this remind us that history is not only something we study, it is something we experience, preserve, and pass on.

🇺🇸✨ E Pluribus Unum — Out of Many, One ✨🇺🇸

As part of its mission of historic preservation and education, the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution continues to research and share the stories of all who contributed to American independence.

In 2020, DAR launched the E Pluribus Unum Educational Initiative — an ongoing effort to expand research and awareness of Revolutionary War Patriots whose contributions have too often been overlooked, including African American, Indigenous, and female participants.

Through this initiative, DAR continues researching and sharing stories of Patriots whose contributions may not be widely known, while providing expanded historical and genealogical resources to support members and the public in learning more about the Revolutionary era.

As we observe Black History Month and continue preparing for America 250, our chapter is proud to highlight these stories — honoring all who contributed to the founding of our nation.

Out of many experiences, sacrifices, and stories — one enduring pursuit of liberty.

❤️✨ Love, Partnership, and the Founding of a Nation ✨❤️

Few relationships in American history reveal the personal cost of the Revolution as clearly as that of John Adams and Abigail Adams.

Separated for years by war, diplomacy, and public service, the Adamses sustained their marriage through hundreds of letters — filled with affection, shared ideals, and candid reflections on the birth of a new nation.

Abigail was far more than a supportive spouse. Through her correspondence, she offered political insight, urged her husband to consider justice and liberty broadly, and reminded him to “remember the ladies” as new laws were written.

As we celebrate Valentine’s Day, we remember that the American founding was shaped not only by battles and debates, but also by enduring partnerships built on love, respect, and shared purpose.

❤️📚 February Meeting Highlights — History, Heart, & Service 📚❤️

Today our chapter gathered at the Rosa Parks Library and Museum for a meaningful and memorable meeting. Members enjoyed a tour through the museum, reflecting on Montgomery’s pivotal role in the Civil Rights Movement and the enduring legacy of courage that continues to shape our nation’s story.

Afterward, we shared fellowship and conversation over lunch at AYA, strengthening the bonds of sisterhood that sustain our chapter’s work.

In recognition of American Heart Month, members wore red as a visible reminder of the importance of heart health and wellness. We also collected goods for our “Souper Bowl” drive, which will be donated at State Conference, turning a fun seasonal theme into meaningful support for those in need.

From education and remembrance to wellness and service, today’s meeting reflected the very best of what it means to be Daughters — honoring the past while caring for our communities today. 💙❤️

🇺🇸✨ America 250 Spotlight: Phillis Wheatley ✨🇺🇸

As we continue our America 250 reflections, we honor patriots whose words helped shape the ideals of a new nation — including Phillis Wheatley.

Enslaved as a child and educated in Boston, Phillis Wheatley became the first African American woman to publish a book of poetry. Her writings engaged directly with themes of liberty, faith, and human dignity during the Revolutionary era, and she corresponded with leaders such as George Washington.

Through her poetry, Wheatley demonstrated the power of intellect and expression to challenge assumptions and expand the conversation about freedom in America’s founding generation.

💚 January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month 💚

Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable and treatable cancers — especially when we have access to the right information and care.

Vaccination against HPV can protect against the most common high-risk strains linked to cervical cancer, and regular screening through Pap tests or HPV tests plays a crucial role in early detection. When found early, cervical cancer is highly treatable.

This month is a reminder of the power of prevention, education, and routine care — and of checking in on ourselves and one another. Small, proactive steps can make a lasting difference in long-term health and well-being.

Awareness leads to action, and action can save lives. 💚

✨ January Chapter Meeting Highlights ✨

Last Wednesday, our chapter gathered for an inspiring January meeting filled with fellowship, service, and excitement for the year ahead.

We were delighted to welcome Tricia McBride, Alabama America 250 Chair, who helped us truly get in the spirit of celebration as we look ahead to commemorating this historic milestone. Her insight and enthusiasm set a wonderful tone for a meaningful year of remembrance, education, and patriotism. 🇺🇸

We are especially grateful to Traci, who graciously opened her beautiful home to host our meeting. Her home provided a warm and inspiring setting, made even more special by a delicious home-cooked meal shared among friends. Her generosity and hospitality perfectly reflected the spirit of welcome and service that defines our chapter.

In the spirit of service, members prepared 120 Valentine treat bags for veterans residing at a local nursing facility — a small gesture of gratitude to remind them they are remembered and appreciated. ❤️

A lovely day that reflected the very best of DAR — history, service, and sisterhood working together. 💙❤️

🕊️ Martin Luther King Jr. Day — Montgomery, Alabama 🕊️

Today we honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. — and reflect on Montgomery’s enduring place in the story of the Civil Rights Movement.

It was here in Montgomery that ordinary citizens, guided by extraordinary courage, helped shape a movement that called our nation to more fully live up to its founding ideals of liberty, justice, and equality.

As stewards of history, we recognize that preserving these stories — and teaching them to future generations — is essential to understanding who we are and who we strive to be as a nation.

On this day of remembrance and service, we recommit ourselves to learning from the past and carrying forward the work of dignity, respect, and community for all.

🇺🇸✨ America 250 Spotlight: James Armistead Lafayette ✨🇺🇸

As we commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, we pause to honor patriots whose courage shaped the outcome of the Revolutionary War — including James Armistead Lafayette.

Enslaved in Virginia, James Armistead volunteered to serve the Continental Army as a double agent, posing as a servant to British officers while secretly gathering intelligence. His information proved critical to General Washington and Marquis de Lafayette during the Yorktown campaign, helping secure a decisive American victory.

After the war, with Lafayette’s support, James Armistead petitioned for and received his freedom — later taking the surname Lafayette in honor of the man who helped secure it.

His story reminds us that the fight for independence depended on bravery, sacrifice, and service from many whose contributions went unrecognized for far too long. As we approach America 250, we remain committed to preserving and sharing the full story of our nation’s founding.
