Old Cahawba is Alabama's most famous ghost town. In 1819 the town was carved out of the wilderness to be the state's first capital. Although the state changed the location of the capital in 1826, Cahawba continued to grow into a thriving and wealthy river town.

This Memorial Day, the Francis Marion Flag Committee stepped up to beautify a local Montgomery neighborhood entrance with a stunning display of American flags. This initiative not only honors the memory of our fallen heroes but also sets the stage for the upcoming America250 celebrations.
Thank you to the committee members for their dedication to fostering patriotism and community spirit!

Two chapters, one shared mission. 🇺🇸🌸
This week, the Captain William Bibb Chapter joined with the Francis Marion Chapter for a special afternoon of fellowship, celebration, and service. We were honored to welcome Alabama State Regent Malinda Williams, who continues to encourage and support chapters across our state through her faithful leadership and dedication.

The meeting included the induction of three new members, reflections on the accomplishments and service efforts of both chapters throughout the past year, and the announcement of a meaningful new River Region Regents Council project: the installation of a bronze Braille Flag at the Montgomery VA Hospital to better serve and honor visually impaired veterans.

As we continue celebrating America 250, moments like these remind us that the work of DAR is strengthened through partnership, community, and a shared commitment to historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

History isn’t just found in textbooks—it’s in the bricks, the beams, and the battlefields we protect today.

May is Historic Preservation Month, a time to celebrate the places that tell the story of who we are. For the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), this isn't just a monthly theme—it’s a core mission. From restoring colonial-era homes to marking the forgotten graves of patriots, the DAR has been at the forefront of "preserving the past for the future" since 1890.

By saving these physical spaces, we keep the spirit of the American Revolution alive for the next generation. 🇺🇸

From the Pilgrims facing droughts to modern times, prayer has always been part of the American story. 🇺🇸

In 1952, President Truman made the National Day of Prayer an annual tradition, reminding us that in times of crisis, we all need "Divine support" to strengthen the foundations of peace.

Today, we carry on that legacy. Whether privately or together, let’s take a moment to reflect, humble ourselves, and pray for our nation.

How are you observing the National Day of Prayer today?

Happy 100th Birthday to the legendary Nelle Harper Lee! Born a century ago today (April 28, 1926) in Monroeville, Alabama, Lee transformed American literature with her 1961 Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece, To Kill a Mockingbird. From receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2007 to having her legacy honored in the Alabama Department of Archives and History, her impact on our collective conscience remains as profound as ever. Today, we celebrate the woman who taught the world that you never really understand a person until you climb into their skin and walk around in it. 📚✨
