Golden Oldies Cat Rescue We are a resource and advocate for cats 6 years and older from Monterey County, CA who are at risk in shelters or whose guardians can no longer care for them.
(2)

We place these cats in foster homes while we search for their new adoptive families. Golden Oldies Cat Rescue was founded by a small group of cat lovers committed to saving lives. We believe that every life has value, even cats who are entering -- or who are already in -- their "golden years." Our mission is to re-home older cats in Monterey County whose guardians can no longer care for them, or t

hose who are at risk in local shelters. We place these cats in temporary foster homes and then find permanent loving homes for them, enriching the lives of both the cats and their new humans. We are 100 percent foster-based. We were founded in June 2016.

💛 Foster or forever home needed for Dixie 💛

Dixie is a beautiful 11 year old dilute orange girl living in Santa Cruz. Both of her beloved people have passed away, and she needs a foster or new home by the end of September.

She is sweet, playful, and inquisitive, but also shy and skittish. Dixie needs someone patient who will give her time to feel safe and show her true personality. Once comfortable, she loves pressing her head against her person, playing with her favorite balls and wand toy, getting ear rubs and back scratches, and enjoying plenty of Temptations!

Dixie has been an indoor only cat and the only pet in her home for the past eight years. She recently received a clean bill of health from her veterinarian.

Please contact Steve at [email protected] or call/text 831-295-2430 if you can help Dixie. 💛

This Spotlight Sunday: Meet Poppy!

Poppy is a sweet 7 year old ginger girl who came to us after her previous owners developed allergies. She loves her play time, cuddle time, and the occasional treat! Her current foster says she "makes you laugh when you least expect it, a true purrformer. Personality plus. A free spirit… "

Let us know if you're interested in getting to know more about Poppy!

Poppy is a pretty redhead orange tabby, with a friendly and curious personality. She greets everyone that comes to visit with calm head rubs after a sniff or two. Poppy was surrendered by a family who had small children with developed allergies.

She is fairly independent but loves to follow her human to see what's going on. Poppy is very playful and full of energy followed by afternoon naps in the sun. She is not a lap cat (yet) but is a cuddler when lying next to you and likes being picked up and carried, in return you get a bunch of soft happy purrs for your effort. Her favorite toys are wand toys, especially with feathers. She puts a lot of energy into playtime, loves small
mice toys she can throw into the air and catch.

She has great litterbox habits and is easy to get into a carrier and very quiet in a car.
Poppy is hoping to be a single cat who prefers to be your only companion for all her needs. She would benefit from a Catio or a safe outdoor space as she is very adventurous and inquisitive.

Dogs and kids are not her thing, other cats? Not really. An adult home would be preferred where
you get all her love and entertainment. Looking for a cat savvy adopter who can read her cues when she’s had enough petting, short sessions are key. With a little patience in the beginning, she will settle in and feel safe as she blossoms and becomes your number one. Give this nice girl a chance at a new beginning!

Did you know that in just the first six months of this year, Golden Oldies Cat Rescue spent nearly $16,000 on veterinary care for cats in need?

One of those cats was 11-year-old Peanut. He arrived needing a dental procedure and six painful tooth extractions. Without treatment, he would have continued to suffer.

Thanks to generous supporters like you, Peanut received the dental care he desperately needed. His pain is gone, and today he's living the life every older cat deserves.

Peanut was adopted by the Suttons, who are longtime volunteers, donors, and adopters of GOCR cats. "We are both smitten with him," Bill says. Their family of four cats is now their "pride."
“We are so happy that Peanut has joined our family. He is adjusting VERY well to his new home and his furry brothers and sister!”

Peanut's happy ending was only possible because caring people stepped forward to help.
Every donation to our Healing Paws Fund allows us to say "yes" when a cat needs medical care—whether it's a dental procedure, surgery, diagnostics, or emergency treatment.

Please help us continue giving cats like Peanut a second chance.
Your gift today will help provide lifesaving veterinary care for the next cat who comes into our program.
