Wishing our Virginia Youth Livestock Program Cattle working team all the best at National Youth Cattle Working Contest this week!

✨MEET THE TEAMS✨

From Virginia, we have Josiah Hitt, Jonas Hitt and Thomas Garth.

Josiah Hitt is a 2025 homeschool graduate competing in his final competition as a 4-H youth member. Throughout his years in 4-H, Josiah has grown significantly in his skills, confidence, and leadership. Some of Josiah's greatest 4-H memories are the friendships, experiences and knowledge he has gained from being on the cattle working team. He extends his sincere gratitude to Jennifer Bryington (Cloverbud leader), Patti Knight (Livestock Club leader), and Kaci Daniel (Orange County 4-H Extension Agent) for guiding him for the last 15 years on his 4-H journey through Cloverbuds and the Livestock Club. He also thanks John Michael Knight and Jill Garth, who stepped in when Kaci’s health declined, doing a tremendous job guiding the team to the National Cattle Working Competition. Outside of 4-H, Josiah enjoys participating in truck shows and plans to continue working full-time as a heavy equipment mechanic for his parents’ business. As his youth membership concludes, he looks forward to returning as an 4-H adult volunteer to help younger members learn and achieve their goals.

Jonas Hitt is a Junior homeschool student who has been a member of the Orange 4-H Livestock Club for eight years and recently served as President of the Orange Livestock Club. He has enjoyed serving as a counselor at 4-H Camp and working with his 4-H animals, particularly the process of training them and seeing his hard work pay off. Jonas is especially honored to be a 4-H All Star and a member of the 2026 Virginia State Champion Cattle Working Team, which earned the opportunity to represent Virginia at the National Cattle Working Competition. This achievement holds deep meaning for Jonas and the Orange 4-H community following the passing of 4-H Extension Agent Kaci Daniel, who served as their cattle working coach for many years. As Jonas and his teammates compete at Nationals, they do so in Kaci's honor, carrying forward her lessons, encouragement, and dedication to 4-H. Outside of 4-H, Jonas enjoys spending time with friends and building items from scrap metal and wood for the farm. Looking ahead, he plans to work as a mechanic for his parents’ business.

Thomas Garth is a Junior at United Christian Academy. He is an active member of the Orange 4-H Livestock Club as well as Orange 4-H Livestock Judging and Stockman’s Teams. He was recently selected as a Virginia 4-H All Star and serves as Vice President of the Growing Crusaders FFA. A fourth-generation farmer, Thomas lives and works on his family farm, where he helps raise cattle and show pigs. He has a passion for livestock judging and is a member of the Virginia 4-H All Star Livestock Judging Team. He hopes to continue expanding his knowledge and skills with the goal of eventually competing in the National Livestock Judging Contest in Louisville, Kentucky. Outside of 4-H and FFA, Thomas enjoys working on mechanical projects, hunting, playing basketball and spending time with his family. Thomas gives glory and thanks to God for all the wonderful opportunities he has been given and for the role models and mentors that continue to help guide him.
