Kudos to Florence Rollino!

The Essex County Master Gardeners program recognized Florence Rollino from Bloomfield and Jose German-Gomez of Montclair among others at their annual picnic held at the Essex County Environmental Center.

Jose, the founder of the Northeast Earth Coalition, surprised Florence with a plaque for her many years as a master gardener and community activist.

Florence is also a longtime trustee of the Cornucopia Network of NJ and hosted many meetings at her home. Carolyn Vadala and Phil Yourish also attended the event.

Engaging in summer activities that can boost mood and enhance overall well-being is a great way to make the most of the season. ☀️🌇

Spending time outdoors in the sunlight allows your body to absorb vitamin D, which plays a crucial role in mood regulation. Sunlight exposure can increase serotonin levels, a neurotransmitter associated with mood elevation and feelings of happiness.

Take advantage of the pleasant weather and engage in outdoor exercise activities like jogging, cycling, hiking, swimming, or playing beach volleyball. Physical activity releases endorphins, improves mood, reduces stress, and promotes overall mental well-being.

If you want to learn more about the food-mood connection, foods to eat for different mental health conditions, and recipes using them, check out my book THIS IS YOUR BRAIN ON FOOD, and subscribe to my free NEWSLETTER, both at the link in my highlights!

Pat Kenshaft, our dear friend and founder of the Cornucopia Network of NJ, has passed. Our condolences to her family and many friends.

Pat was a very special person with unique talents and interests. During her lifetime, she was a Math professor, author, environmentalist, social justice/peace advocate, community activist, backyard gardner, blogger of garden advice, and the popular host of Cornucopia "Open Gardens." Moreover, she received the Lifetime Award of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

In 1983, with a small group of similarly-minded individuals, she started the Cornucopia Network of NJ, a volunteer-based organization that has had a major impact on growing local, organic, healthy, and safe food - and continued as a trustee and secretary of CNNJ until a few years ago.

The link to her obituary, written by her daughter, Lori Kenschaft, is below:
