I have thought long and hard about how to make this post. I’m doing it in a positive way because a lot of residents are made out to look bad when they post open meeting violations, but as my father who was a member of the select board and in an abutting town for over 25 years always told me, do not be afraid to ask questions and do the right thing. After 30 years of being on the planning board and Community Preservation Committee , (I resigned in Feb-not for any issues having to do with those committees) this meeting made me feel very uncomfortable and when the town attorney sent me a letter saying I was wrong with my complaint, and my complaint was denied, I found out that I could override their decision by at least asking the state to weigh in on this. Over six months later, they now have ruled in my favor. The town attorney was wrong. I am not on any Town committees anymore for a various amount of reasons, however, I am not afraid to speak up when I know something is wrong. I continue to volunteer in many ways for this town and will continue to for years to come. Again, this is an eye-opening Post for those who have felt afraid to complain and about rules not being followed. And for those who say people who complain constantly and cost the town money, then maybe the town committees need to re-read the rules. I urge you all to do the right thing and speak up when you see a problem just like we tell our children. I have shut off comments because this is not anything other than a positive post to say that sometimes we have to wait for the authorities to be told to make changes and do the right thing. I hope this starts a discussion within the committee and selectboard, TA all involved to share best practices and their past mistakes with each other in an effort for us all to work together.
Thank you!
