Herman Brown served the citizens of Monroe County for 28 years as a Michigan State Trooper. During that time, he had positive contacts with generations of families. On duty, Herman helped people during life threatening emergencies but also when they just needed a friend to talk to. Herman was there if you were struggling financially, physically or emotionally. He gave so many people rides to various appointments that his sergeant had to remind him that he wasn’t an Uber driver. 🥰 If he discovered you had a need, he would return off duty to help you.
Off duty, we could never list all of his contributions to the community. He was a well known member of the Michigan State Police Troopers Association (MSPTA) and the Fraternal Order of Police(FOP). He was at every meeting, selling raffle tickets and encouraging members to donate to other charities and to get more involved in their own communities. He volunteered, donated, and participated in numerous organizations and charity motorcycle rides including but not limited to the Law Dogs, Holiday Camp, Thin Blue Line of Michigan, the Trooper Chad Wolfe, Officer Keith Dressel, and the Penrickton School for Blind Children memorial rides.
Monroe lost a great public servant and charitable man when Herman died. That is why we started this fund - to continue his charitable good deeds so the community wouldn’t miss him as much as we have. The Trooper Herman Brown Memorial Fund was established to simply spread joy and happiness to others. We are not a large charity with paid staff members and a long history in this community. We are relatively new and are made up of Herman’s blue family and his friends. We exist on donations and fundraisers which allow us to do things like passing out gift cards to over 100 children or purchasing flowers for nursing homes and in care facilities.
As you may know, this past Valentine’s Day, we personally delivered flowers to every Sister at IHM in Monroe. One of the Sisters stated she had never received flowers on Valentine’s Day in her life. We don’t do things for public recognition or with an expectation of anything. We do it because it’s a nice thing to do. We do it to spread joy to someone else. That was Trooper Brown’s way of doing things. That Sister probably doesn’t remember what group gave her flowers on Valentine’s Day but I guarantee she remembers how those flowers made her feel.
Our charity focuses on random acts of kindness. We are working to establish a community service award in Herman’s honor to recognize children who have a true passion to serve others and their community. We want to encourage, nurture, and fuel children to think of others and to serve their communities. Your generous donations would allow us to be able to fund, foster and encourage his spirit of community service and acts of kindness for those in this community.
