VITA - Free Income Tax Assistance at WOU

WOU’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is accepting appointments for FREE tax preparation services! Our IRS-Certified tax preparers can help you file your tax returns for FREE if you made $67,000 or less during 2024, are disabled or a non-English speaker. Anyone who qualifies for the VITA program may take advantage of it; it’s not necessary to be a WOU student, staff or alumni. The program is staffed by WOU students who have passed an advanced course of IRS-Certified tax training. The WOU VITA location is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Appointments may be made on their appointment website at: https://420101.waitwell.us/ , by email to [email protected], or by phone at 503-751-4132. Spanish speaking preparers are available by advance arrangement. The forms are available on our website or at the Independence or Monmouth libraries, or Polk County Resource Center.

We are now accepting appointments for FREE income tax preparation services at our Monmouth location, on the Western Oregon University campus in the Welcome Center (701 Monmouth Ave N in Monmouth). Appointments start on Saturday, February 8th! Please click on our website to learn more. Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the Scheduling icon for more information about making an appointment.

The last day of operation for this year’s tax season was April 13, 2024. Please check back after January 15, 2025 for information on our operating hours for the 2024 tax year filing season.

Hello Community! We are the second of two FREE tax preparation services available in the Monmouth and Independence communities. Introducing WOU VITA -- please "like" or "follow" our page to get updates about free tax preparation services by certified WOU student tax preparers and supervised by WOU educators. This program has a slightly more narrow focus than the other local free program (our colleagues at AARP Tax-Aide), but we are still able to assist the vast majority of local residents. You qualify for our free services if you (1) have income of $67,000 or less, (2) OR you are disabled, (3) OR you are a limited or non-English speaker. Please call us to make an appointment at 503-751-4132, OR make an appointment through our online system at https://420101.waitwell.us/ -- We are open starting Saturday, February 8th. Hours of operation are Tuesdays from 1pm-7pm, Thursdays from 1pm-7pm and Saturdays from 12n-5pm. We are located at the WOU Welcome Center in Room 135. The address is 701 Monmouth Ave N in Monmouth (Parking passes for Lot O are available during your appointment, request one at check-in).
