Friends of Bear Creek

Friends of Bear Creek Dedicated to restoring and protecting the Bear Creek Watershed Bear Creek has its headwaters west of the Molalla River and just south of the City of Molalla.

Bear Creek, with its extensive associated wetlands, is a tributary of the Pudding River which feeds the Willamette River which feeds the Columbia River. Over decades, Bear Creek has been subjected to numerous practices which have seriously degraded the watershed. The City of Molalla overburdened Bear Creek to the west of the city as a dump for treated waste water. Bear Creek, where it flows throug

h urban Molalla, suffers from multiple culverts at road crossing. Bear Creek's must urgent restoration need is in the Floragon/Avision abandoned timber mill brownfield on the south border of Molalla along the Forest Rd. Bear Creek crosses diagonally from Molalla Ave, flowing west across the toxic brownfield. DEQ has confirmed multiple pollutants in the creek and on the brownfield, including dioxins/furans and petroleum hydrocarbons. The polluted creek flows west from the toxic brownfields onto multiple rural properties with shallow wells. Domestic animals and wildlife use the Bear Creek watershed.
