Message from Mayor George Metanias:

"Our Village was hit hard, once again, from today's storms. Several roads are still impassable. Right now power lines are down on Townline between 195th and 197th street, on 115th street between 195th and 197th, and First street between Division and the 10900 Block. Our Public Works crews are working hard to clear roads and remove tree debris. We have been in direct contact with ComEd to request that they prioritize those residents that are directly affected from the downed power lines. Many communities throughout Northern Illinois are impacted from the storm damage as well. ComEd will prioritize hospitals, nursing homes and other critical infrastructure and will progressively work to repair the damage. They have called in additional crews from numerous other states to assist us in our recovery efforts. Residents are advised to contact ComEd directly for any power outage questions. Thank you for your patience while we work collectively to repair our community."

🚨 STORM UPDATE 🚨

Due to downed trees and power lines, the following roads are currently impassable:

• Townline Road between 195th & 197th
• First Street between Division & Midland
• 115th Avenue between 195th & 197th

The Mokena Police Department, Public Works, and ComEd are working together to clear these areas. Please avoid these roadways and do not drive around barricades.

If you encounter other blocked or impassable roads, please let us know so we can keep residents informed.

On 08/01/2026, at approximately 2:52 am, in the area of 191st. street and LaGrange Road, our officers encountered a male subject later determined to be Hamed M. Alsaidi, D.O.B 06/08/1995, from the 5700 Block of Circle Drive in Oak Lawn. He was walking in the street and provided officers a false name. At the time he had a blue blanket and a backpack. He was arrested for being in the roadway and obstructing officers by providing officers the false name. A search of his backpack revealed several bottles filled with gasoline and stuffed with rags (Molotov cocktails). The State Fire Marshalls Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, To***co and Fi****ms were contacted and came out to the Mokena Police Department to assist in the investigation. The FBI was also contacted and provided with the information. The Will County States Attorney’s Office was contacted and Hamed was subsequently charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Obstructing a Peace Officer and was detained at the Will County Jail. The Bureau of Alcohol, To***co and Fi****ms will be continuing this investigation.

Storm Tree Clean-Up – July 27, 2026

Public Works crews are actively working to remove storm debris and fallen branches throughout the Village.

If you have tree debris that needs to be collected, please place it in the parkway near the curb and call (708) 479-3900 to request pickup.

To report a power outage or downed power lines, please contact ComEd at (800) 334-7661 or report your outage through the ComEd website or mobile app.

Thank you for your patience as our crews work through the significant amount of storm debris. We appreciate your cooperation as cleanup efforts continue throughout the Village.

The Mokena Police Department is again informing our residents about the "Senior Assassin" game that is being played by high school seniors. While the game may be fun for the high schoolers, it can come at the cost of their freedom or their lives.

In "Senior Assassin", the students attempt to "assassinate" other players with water or other toy guns. They will chase their target through neighborhoods, hide in bushes, and otherwise look like an intruder on property preparing to attack an unknowing and potentially legally armed resident. These "playful" actions can lead to serious misunderstandings between the public and the police and can have severe legal and life or death consequences. Our officers will respond according to their tactical training when called about potentially armed subjects running through yards or chasing people.

We ask that parents talk with their students about the potential consequences of their games and the importance of making responsible life choices.

Furthermore, we ask that our residents call 911 if they observe any type of suspicious behavior or criminal activity.

POLICE RETURN TO PROPERTY IN MOKENA

This is an alert to residents and drivers near Oakwood Drive and Townline Road in Mokena, that there will be police activity in the area for several hours and into the night of 03/30/2026.
This is the same location where skeletal remains were found last week of missing Joliet man 36-year-old Terhan F. Gordon.
More remains have since been found after a sweep of the property today.

INVESTIGATION IN MOKENA NEAR OAKWOOD AND TOWNLINE

This is an alert to residents and drivers near Oakwood Drive and Townline Road in Mokena, that Will County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene Investigation, and Will County EMA Search and Rescue will be in the area.

A comprehensive search of a field will begin around 9 a.m.

Please be cautious of our personnel and extra vehicles parked in that area.

The Will County Sheriff's Office was initially called to Oakwood and Townline around 12:30 p.m., on 03/24/2026 for possible human remains found.

Land surveyors were working in the field and found what appeared to be a human skull. Will County Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene, completed an initial search of the property which revealed additional bones scattered throughout the field.

The bones that have been recovered, have been turned over to the Will County Coroner's Office for processing and data checking of missing persons cases.
