Voters for Farmland

Voters for Farmland Urban Limit Initiatives for cities by voters to save farmland and reduce the cost of sprawl! City and County governments have similar land-use authority.

To help, please mail donations to VFF PO Box 94 2801 Mitchell Road Ceres, CA 95307 or Venmo Stamp Out Sprawl is committed to improving certainty within Stanislaus County land-uses. Prime and statewide important farmland classifications surround our urbanized areas. SOS encourages elected leaders to protect our best farmland. Their tools include; retaining tightly regulated agric

ultural zone uses for agriculture/non-urban uses; improving urban use efficiencies (infill); adopting high standards and densities for urbanization; planning for ag and not urbanizing certain areas; directing development away from higher quality soils; directing urbanization into cities; include soil quality considerations to limit urban conversion; direct/restrict urbanization to within the Spheres of Influences of our nine incorporated cities.

Stanislaus County is a classic example of the Central Valley's landscape, where urban development meets some of the most productive agricultural land in the world.
When we are smart, we grow east over much less productive soils. Where on earth is it wise to urbanize the best farmland in the world. LA? San Jose? Certainly not on the Stanislaus County valley floor!

May Day, May Day, May Day! The Modesto City Council has chosen lust over logic! With birth rates declining, baby boomers receding and AI threatening to eliminate jobs, where are all the people going to come from to fill all those homes in their new General Plan?
Modesto has the highest sales tax in the County. We don't think those extra dollars are to be used for sprawl studies and pie in the sky plans that will never happen!
Fix what we have first. Don't build when there won't be anybody coming...
Don't forget Modesto/Stanislaus County was tops in the nation in home foreclosures in 2008!

In California, City Council members are legally considered representatives of the entire community within their jurisdiction, not just the individuals who are registered to vote. While they are elected by registered voters, their official role is to govern and provide services for all residents, including non-citizens, minors, and those who are eligible but not registered to vote.

Questions for MID and City of Modesto: Is the contract between COM/MID for use of the 60 million gallons of water per day guaranteed or is it subject to the same possibility of limitation, as are farmer supplies, during drought conditions? Will our crystal ball tell us that future use of Tuolumne River water may not be curtailed by 20-50% for both farmers and/or city users?
The area north of Modesto is one of the highest water recharge areas in the county. Will the urbanization of the area, and thus the significant reduction of the recharging of the aquifer during farm irrigation period (April thru November), accelerate the overdrafting of those aquifers? I assume that the aquifers are, in part, recharged in the winter by urban dry wells within the COM system. Thus, during the dry period, urbanizing the high water recharge area north of Modesto may cause a significant reduction of available well water and require much more reliability upon surface treated water. Thus the question: will surface water treatment be subject to the same reduction of use as are farmer uses?
