Well Costume College is over and what a whirl wind it was! Two of our members attended and had a ball! :D On a personal note I'm super proud of the 18th Century outfit I work on Sunday to breakfast. So here are some photos of that. :D

About the outfit: The "bodice" is an 18th C jacket made in Colonial Williamsburg's Wavy Floral (my absolute favorite). The pattern is a combination of Costume Close-up and JP Ryan's jacket pattern. As well as awesome tutorial to hand sew my jacket. It is completely hand sewn with only one small modification (besides the normal fitting mods) from JP's pattern. I added a small gore in the front to help the front lay nicely. The Burgundy Wool Flannel petticoat for the jacket is a simple petticoat and is machine sewn, but hand finished. I made my cap, sleeve frills, bows and all jewelry I'm wearing. The Petticoat and Jacket with both made of remnants. The Jacket was fitted on a yard and 1/3 and the petticoat was actually two cuts that were both a little over a yard in width I believe.

On a side note when I first tried everything on I had just a bum roll and no under petticoat. I thought to myself it was a shame I didn't have the opportunity to buy more of the wool as both of the pieces of fabric used for this gown were remnants. I felt the petticoat wasn't full enough but when I wore this on Sunday I wore my under petticoat as well as my new split bum that I made and what a difference! :D

I know I think the very same thing evertime one of these links scrolls through my Facebook feed, but without the generosity of my friends I would not have been able to attend Costume College in 2015 and I am once ag...

Hi all! Looks like the Stanislaus County Library is getting a new guest speaker. Me. LOL! That's right in October I will be giving a presentation on Victorian Halloween. So if you live local and want to check it out I will be posting more information as it becomes available. I know that it will be about a 15 to 20 minute talk and that I will have loads of pictures (have to use power-point...). There is also a craft in the works. This is an all age event. :D So please keep me in your thoughts even though I am used to talking in front of people I still get super nervous. LOL!

So I was speaking to the lovely event planner at the McHenry Mansion/Museum and discovered that the rental for the Museum would be about 600 dollars that is just for the venue. It would be an AMAZING event but is anyone even interested in me going forth and planning this out? We would need AT least 15 people and the tickets would cost between 50 and 60 dollars. Unless I get more interest. I was thinking a full tea? Or a dance? The auditorium is large and quite nice.

Costume college is amazing and I'm already planning for next year. I will post photos when I get home to my laptop. Don't forget to start planning for the McHenry mansion Christmas fair in December. Attire is 1883 to early 1900 remember we'll be outside in winter. So probably not wise to wear your lightest summer frock.
