This afternoon we partnered with Clarke County - Alabama Extension to plant vegetables plants at the Jackson Senior Center. The 4H students planted yellow squash, tomatoes, and green bell peppers in the container gardens. Our goal is for the participants to have a plentiful harvest of summer veggies.

Thank you to Cyndi and the team for welcoming us. It was great serving the participants and teaching the students about summer veggies.

Thank you for all the community volunteers that came out on this rainy day to start the ramp build for Lee! We are honored to participate in United Way of Southwest Alabama’s Day of Caring.

To our volunteers, we value your time and expertise. The rain prevented our completion, but we will be back at it later this month.

If you would like to join us, register at www.rebuildingtogethersa.org

Rebuilding Together of South Alabama kicked off our rain barrel project at Jackson Middle School today! Coach Powell’s 6th grade science class learned about the purpose of rain barrels and the value of recycling water.

The barrel will water the pollinators garden and support the Aggie Acres Program. It was a great partnership!

If your household, church, or community center would like a rain barrel, connect with us at www.rebuildingtogethersa.org.

This project is funded by The University of South Alabama and the Gulf Coast Environmental Engagement Center.

Proud to partner with these amazing organizations. Thank you CDC Foundation, Lifelines Counseling Services, and Bay Area Women Coalition, Inc.

In Mobile, Alabama, hurricanes can bring intense rainfall and rising water from Mobile Bay that can quickly overwhelm local drainage systems. When drainage ditches are already clogged with debris, the likelihood of flooding increases, putting residents at greater risk for waterborne diseases, asthma and other respiratory conditions from mold exposure.

To better prepare their community for hurricane season, Lifelines Counseling Services partnered with Bay Area Women Coalition, Inc., Rebuilding Together of South Alabama, the Mobile County Emergency Management Agency and local public works departments to mobilize a cleanup of 22 drainage ditch corridors, removing over 10 tons of debris. They also hosted community events to highlight the importance of keeping local drainage systems clear and provided lifesaving training on recognizing and treating severe bleeding as well as administering CPR, giving community members the necessary skills to help their neighbors during storms and other emergencies.

We are proud to work with Lifelines Counseling Services and other organizations across the Gulf South to help bolster communities against the negative health effects of hurricanes and other weather events.
