Today marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of a much larger journey for our singers who are graduating. We often look at graduation as a moment of receiving. Receiving a diploma, receiving honors, and receiving recognition. But as you move forward, I hope you carry the wisdom of this Samoan proverb: ‘O le ala i le p**e o le tautua.’
This reminds us that true leadership and authority over your own life’s direction are not simply given. They are built through service to your goals, your families, and your community.
In the spirit of the connection to community, the Board has incorporated a new tradition this year. Bringing a piece of the Pacific to Montana, some of our board members went to the ceremony’s to celebrate these graduates with the gifting of leis and hakus.
These are more than just beautiful symbols; they are a physical recognition of your hard work, your determination, and your success. As you wear them, know that you carry the support of your community with you.
Note: our pianist Sylvia Wood also graduated with her Masters in Composition today but chose not to walk. Although she’s not pictured here, we are sending her all the love and hugs as she celebrates with her family!
Congratulations, graduates! ❤️
