CALL TO ACTION!!! VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY!!!
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation is seeking volunteers to help with a fence removal project at Chimineas Ranch on Saturday, May 16.
This project is crucial to provide a tule elk herd access to an additional 15 acres of forage and to reduce the risk of fence entanglement. Volunteers will be asked to remove barbed wire fencing, hog wire, and T-posts.
The project location is approximately 30 minutes east of Santa Maria and about ¼ mile off Highway 166. Work is scheduled from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Lodging on Friday night is available for up to 15 guests at the ranch headquarters. Dry camping is also permitted for tents, truck camping, and small RVs. Hotel lodging is available in nearby Cuyama and Santa Maria.
Food will be provided for all volunteers:
Saturday breakfast: coffee, juice, pastries, and fruit
Saturday lunch: build-your-own sandwiches with a variety of breads, meats, cheeses, condiments, chips, and drinks
Saturday dinner: barbecued steak, chicken, beans, bread, salad, and drinks
Water and Gatorade will be provided. Feel free to bring your own beverages. No alcohol, please.
If you're the type of person who wants to give back to wildlife and believes that hunting is conservation, this is your opportunity to make a difference.
