💔 Meet Lizzie Hot Wheels 💔

Nine-year-old Lizzie came into the shelter as a stray, scared and unable to use her back legs. Nobody knew exactly what had happened to her or why she had suddenly lost mobility. For a while, her future felt uncertain.

But then something beautiful happened.

One of the amazing staff members made sure Lizzie got a wheelchair of her very own… and it completely changed her life. The moment those wheels touched the ground, Lizzie took off. She went from barely being able to move to cruising around with joy, determination, and a spirit that refuses to quit. Honestly, she didn’t just hit the ground running… she hit the ground rolling. 🐾🛞

Despite everything she’s been through, Lizzie still chooses happiness. She still lights up when she sees people. She still believes there’s someone out there who will love her exactly as she is.

And that’s why we are not looking for just any home for Lizzie. We are looking for the perfect forever home. A home filled with patience, compassion, and love. Because after all she has endured, that’s exactly what she deserves.

If you would like more information or would like to schedule a meet and greet, please contact KC Pet Project.

For more than 7 YEARS, over 2,600 DAYS, Gizmo has waited in the same kennel for someone to notice him. For someone to visit him. For someone to know that he is there.

For the past 7 years, Gizmo's days have looked the same. He eats, sleeps, and tries to find comfort surrounded by noise, cold concrete, and loneliness. While our lives have changed and memories have been made, Gizmo's only memories are of the kennel mates who came and went. Every one of them left.

Today, he watched his kennel mate of two years leave him behind.

As I sat with him, I got the sense that he believes this is all he deserves. That this is simply his life. As I walked away, he gave me a smile, almost as if he was thanking me for noticing him, even if only for a short while.

I couldn't promise to take him home with me, but I did make him a promise: that people would know he exists. And now I hope someone who sees this will make him a promise too...to love him for whatever time he has left, whether that's days, months, or years.

Gizmo has a heart murmur and requires thyroid medication, but that only makes him more deserving of a home, not less. He is approximately 12 years old, appears to be a Labrador mix, and is friendly with both people and other dogs. Due to limited activity over the last seven years, he is currently around 75 pounds.

Please don't let a kennel be the only life he ever knows.
Note: The shelter website is not updated and has not been updated in a long time. Gizmo is not listed there.

Two years ago today, I made the hardest and best decision of my life.

I asked for help.

At the time, I was exhausted. Mentally, physically, emotionally. I had spent years trying to outrun anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and the pressure of constantly carrying the weight of the world around me. Alcohol slowly became the thing I turned to for comfort, until eventually it became the thing that was destroying me.

Today, I celebrate TWO YEARS of sobriety. And the truth is, I could never have done this alone.

I’m grateful for every person who answered a late-night phone call.
Every person who sat beside me in meetings.
Every therapist, sponsor, treatment staff member, friend, and family member who reminded me that my life still had value when I couldn’t see it myself.

Recovery gave me something alcohol never could:
Peace.
Purpose.
Presence.
Gratitude.

These last two years have taught me that healing is not about becoming perfect. It’s about becoming honest. It’s about showing up, even on the hard days. It’s about learning that strength isn’t hiding your pain… it’s finally talking about it.

One of the greatest gifts sobriety has given me is the ability to be of service to others. Whether it’s helping someone struggling with addiction, speaking at treatment centers, supporting mental health conversations, or simply answering messages from people who feel alone… that service has become part of my recovery.

If you’re struggling right now, please hear this:

You are not too far gone.
You are not weak.
And your story is not over.

Recovery is possible. I am living proof of that.

Thank you to every single person who has supported me, encouraged me, prayed for me, checked on me, and walked beside me these last two years. I carry an unbelievable amount of gratitude in my heart today.

And to anyone fighting battles silently:
KEEP GOING. ❤️

💔 I don’t even know where to begin with Shandy. 💔

Shandy is just eight months old. A baby. And yet somehow, she has already experienced a level of cruelty that is almost impossible to comprehend.

Her mouth and front legs were bound so tightly for an undetermined amount of time that she lost circulation to her front paws. The damage is catastrophic. Because of the lack of blood flow, Shandy developed tissue necrosis, meaning her skin and tissue are literally dying. In some areas, the tissue loss is so severe that bone is exposed.

Can you imagine the pain this innocent dog has endured?

The binding around her mouth was so tight that she will likely carry permanent scars for the rest of her life. And right now, we still don’t know the full extent of the damage to her feet and legs. She has already lost parts of some toes, and there’s a possibility she will need an amputation. We are praying with everything we have that it doesn’t come to that.

I have seen a lot of heartbreaking things in animal rescue over the years, but this is one of the worst cases of abuse I’ve witnessed in person. The emotional weight of seeing Shandy like this will stay with me forever. 💔

Despite everything she has endured, Shandy is still fighting.

The cost of the care she has received would be $4,000-$5,000 at a private practice, as the team works around the clock to save her legs, manage her pain, prevent infection, and give her every possible chance at recovery.

Right now, our focus is not anger. It’s not outrage. It’s Shandy.

It’s making sure she receives every ounce of medical care, comfort, love, and compassion she deserves after everything she’s been through.

Please, if you are able, help me help Shandy today. Every donation matters. Every share matters. Every prayer matters.

💔 Shandy (Cruelty/Abuse Case) 💔

Today I learned about an 8-month-old puppy named Shandy who came from one of the most horrific abuse cases I’ve ever seen.

I’m currently heading to the shelter to learn more about her story, but what I already know is absolutely heartbreaking. Her mouth and legs were bound so tightly that it caused severe loss of circulation. No animal should ever have to endure this kind of cruelty.

Cases like this are difficult to even comprehend, and I can honestly say it’s one of the worst situations I’ve personally come across.

Please keep Shandy in your thoughts tonight. I’ll share more information as I learn it.

PLEASE DONATE ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
