The idea that "education is...a life," is fairly simple, yet utterly profound. Charlotte Mason believed that since children are fully formed individuals, the mind of a child is one that needs engaging and nourishing ideas in order to thrive. Like the body needs a variety of nutrient-dense foods and exercise, so does the mind! When a child is provided with the wonders of nature, the glory of music, the beauty of art, and the captivation of good books, their mind will grow in strength and truth.

A child whose education is a life is one who has felt the thrill of a new idea, who has seen the evidence that their mind can recall and enjoy, who, simply, enjoys learning!

Handicrafts are a treasured hallmark of a Charlotte Mason education. Students are encouraged to learn challenging new skills that require focus and careful work, and are rewarded with the pride and pleasure of having created things that are both useful and beautiful. We can’t wait to see our students grow in their knowledge and maturity as they learn new handicrafts at The Oaks!

The Oaks Christian Academy works in partnership with homeschooling parents to give our students the best of both worlds: education in a school setting and education at home.

What does that look like?
•Students will school at home M,W,F with curriculum that parents get to choose and get to teach.
•Students will school at The Oaks on T,Th with a consistent teacher and classmates of the same level.
•The Oaks will offer rich, thorough lessons in several core subjects: History, Geography, and Science. Parents can add to those subjects at home if they desire, of course. If they choose not to, however, they can rest in the confidence that their students are receiving an excellent and beautiful education in those areas at The Oaks.
•The Oaks will provide regular reinforcement and practice in math and reading to maintain momentum on lessons that students are getting at home.
•The Oaks provides the stability of friendships and corporate learning for students, while parents can use the time on school days for whatever they need.
•Students will spend LOTS of time outdoors in lessons and at play while at The Oaks, a habit that so many homeschooling families also encourage!

We praise God for His provision of a space that has comfortable classrooms and amenities as well as a large, beautiful property to enjoy for our outdoor classes, nature walks, and recess. After all, like Charlotte Mason said, “Never be within doors when you can rightly be without!”
