On Tuesday, we attended the 7th World Conference on Remedies to Racial & Ethnic Economic Inequality at Humphrey School of Public Affairs for a conversation on The Case for Economic Democracy, joined by R.T. Rybak.

The conversation explored what it takes to move from knowing where economic disparities exist to changing the systems that continue to produce them.

Melvin Carter, former Mayor of St. Paul, reminded us that, “Minnesota has always had the ingredients to get this right. What we’ve lacked is the recipe. It won’t happen without intentionally bringing those ingredients together, in the right order and sequence, to reach the outcome we’re trying to achieve.”

What we build now should create more possibility for the people who come after us. That is a generational promise.

After arriving in Minnesota and struggling to find work, Frank Dogbe began as a janitor and worked his way through the commercial cleaning industry before starting SOS Building Services. Today, he gives newly arrived immigrants the first opportunity he once needed.

Neighborhood Development Center, one of GroundBreak’s origination partners, helped open doors that conventional financial institutions had kept closed, giving Frank the support to grow his vision.

Across the country, entrepreneurs are building thriving ecosystems in communities that have been historically overlooked. Opening those doors requires institutions to work together to change who capital reaches and what becomes possible once it does.

For Frank, that possibility is a company built to outlive him and carry more people forward.

On Tuesday morning, our coalition gathered in North Minneapolis to mark a new milestone in our region’s wealth-building journey.

Lifting up the theme “Culture + Capacity,” our 2026 Spring Convening welcomed 200+ attendees from across sectors to celebrate the impact underway and double down on our ambitious vision. Leading the event were GroundBreak Chief Impact Officer Drinal Foster, CEO Adair Mosley, and entrepreneur and NBA champion Devean George, joined by a panel of change agents committed to erasing barriers to financial access.

Thank You to our inspiring panel and event partners, to our facility host George Modular Solutions, and to the many coalition members contributing their capital to transform our economy and our region for generations.

In his closing remarks, GroundBreak senior advisor Melvin Carter captured the momentum of the moment: “We spent years planning it… Now we get to point to it.”
