Chaney was one of the co-founders of the Minneapolis Juneteenth Celebration in 1984—decades before Juneteenth became a federal holiday.

University of Minnesota environmental-justice publication documents his work he:

Helped establish a Juneteenth celebration in North Minneapolis in 1984
co-founded the Wendell Phillips Credit Union in the 1990s
founded Project Sweetie Pie in 2010
helped create The Family of Trees
developed the J.U.I.C.E. — Juneteenth Urban Initiative Creating Economic Empowerment concept
became involved in Northside Green Zone and food/environmental justice work.

Our projects in the works. These projects are still growing, we can’t wait to watch them bloom!

THE DOZENS IS COMING TO WEST BROADWAY! 🔥✊🏿🌱

I’m excited to be part of the planning team bringing THE DOZENS to West Broadway on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 1–5 PM!

This is more than an event. It’s an opportunity to bring our community together through music, food, culture, entrepreneurship, small business, and community connection—and to celebrate the incredible people already doing the work on the Northside.

As part of the planning team, I’m helping coordinate music and entertainment, food vendors, participating businesses, community partners, and other contributors who will help bring this vision to life.

And what makes this especially meaningful is that we’re building this together.

From artists and DJs to food entrepreneurs, small businesses, neighborhood organizations, volunteers, sponsors, and community leaders—every piece matters.

THE DOZENS is about creating a living, breathing corridor of Black culture, commerce, creativity, and community on West Broadway.

Think of it as our Northside gathering place—a celebration of what happens when we stop waiting for someone else to create the table and start building the table ourselves.

There is still room for artists, food vendors, businesses, community organizations, volunteers, sponsors, and partners who want to be part of making this first celebration something special.

If you have something to contribute, let's connect.

The Dozens.
Our culture. Our businesses. Our people. Our West Broadway.

Let’s build something together. ❤️🖤💚
