Jeremiah Program Disrupting the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children two generations at a time.

Our mission it to disrupt the cycle of poverty for single mothers and their children, two generations at a time. When a mother invests simultaneously in her personal and professional goals and the education of her children, she can re-author her family’s outcomes and act as a change agent within her community.

Each May, we try to capture in a single day what we know to be true *every* day: Moms are the gravitational pull that keeps our worlds spinning. They are human magic.

This year, let’s celebrate our moms and moms everywhere a little extra. Their human magic deserves more than applause — it deserves investment.

What do we mean when we say, “Community is a verb”?

For single moms it can look like:
- showing up for someone else’s child care emergency because you know it could be yours tomorrow
- collectively sending the same concerned email to your school board because many voices are stronger than one
- sharing information instead of hoarding scarce resources

Isolation is a tool. It keeps people quiet, tired, and blaming themselves for problems that are structural. Community — active and intentional — is how power begins to shift.

Community is how we stop asking, “What’s wrong with me?” and start asking, “Why is this so hard for all of us?”

This is why the JP community is crucial.

Together, we can advance economic mobility for single mothers and lower-income families through policy, partnership, and resources that meet families where they are.

We are more powerful as a collective. Learn more about how we build community: https://bit.ly/4tJth2R

On average, it takes student parents twice as long to complete college degrees as their non-parenting peers — there's so much stacked against them. But with support and A LOT of determination, they can do it. Our JP moms are proof.

JP President and CEO Chastity recently wrote:

Two things can be true: You can be well and taking care of yourself and simultaneously concerned about the rising costs of gas, groceries, and rent — and the impact on working and lower-income families.

And you can seek joy. Finding joy is important. Joy is a form of resistance.

That joy doesn’t negate the stress that comes with every news headline. It’s OK to be alarmed. To feel frustrated. To look at the world and think, “This is a lot.” Because it is.

Food drives and clothing donations matter. But they aren’t enough.

Real, lasting change requires policy at the local, state, and federal levels to work for families.

We need solutions that address the root causes of poverty — not symptoms.

Whether through advocacy, investment, storytelling, or policy, each of us has a role to play in building a country where every family has the chance to thrive.
