Our mission is to foster relationships and empower youth to develop their self-actualization, guiding them on a path toward fulfilling their God-given potential.

😂😂😂 I knew it…

Not “Ms. Neacara, what are we learning tomorrow?”
Not “What time is the program?”

Just… “You making curry tomorrow right?” 🍛😭

At this point I’m not even a program director…
I’m a whole restaurant AND a mentor lol.

But THIS is what makes STEPP special 💛
Young people feel at home, they show up, they connect, and yes… they eat GOOD too.

And while they’re here?
They’re building confidence, leadership skills, and real relationships that matter.

✨ Food brings them in…
✨ Purpose keeps them growing.

During our Pathways Youth Center Open House, young people had the opportunity to sit in on a live conversation with Khalique Rogers and Shakirah Edwards from the Curated Conversations Podcast, sharing ideas, perspectives, and real dialogue about life, leadership, and community.
At Pathways Life & Health, we believe young people deserve spaces where their voices are heard and valued.
Through the S.T.E.P.P. Program (Scholars That Exemplify Perseverance & Prodigy), youth have the opportunity to participate in our weekly podcast/talk show, where they can share their thoughts, build confidence, practice communication skills, and discuss topics that matter to them.

STEPP Afterschool Program Opportunities for Youth! ✨

Through the S.T.E.P.P. Program (Scholars That Exemplify Perseverance & Prodigy), Pathways Life & Health is creating meaningful spaces for young people to grow, create, and build community after school.

Our Monday–Thursday STEPP Afterschool Program offers engaging groups that help youth develop leadership, creativity, and confidence:

💃🏾 Dance Class
A fun and expressive space where youth learn choreography, build confidence, and celebrate movement and culture.

🎤 Songwriting Class
Youth explore their voice through music, writing lyrics, and learning how to express their stories through songwriting.

🎧 Creative Media Production
Students learn photography, podcasting, storytelling, and digital content creation while developing creative and technical media skills.

🤝🏾 Brotherhood Group
A space for young men to build leadership, brotherhood, accountability, and discuss real-life topics that support their growth.

👑 Girls Group
A supportive sisterhood where girls grow in confidence, leadership, and self-expression through meaningful conversations and activities.

At Pathways Life & Health, the STEPP Program helps young people discover their purpose, strengthen their identity, and build skills that support their future.

In 2021 the Scholars That Exemplify perseverance & Prodigy program was founded by Executive Director Neacara Sutton & her 8th grade students at Columbia Heights Middle School. In spring 2026 the STEPP founding students are set to graduate high school, just after they help open doors to our new pathways youth center, home of the STEPP PROGRAM!

Yesterday’s STEPP session was all about building with purpose—literally and figuratively. 🏠✨
Our lesson plan used gingerbread houses as a symbol of building your life, your future, and your foundation. As our young people designed and built their houses, they practiced planning, teamwork, communication, patience, and problem-solving—the same skills it takes to build a strong path in life.

This is what after-school programming with purpose looks like. 💛
We’re currently partnering with schools and would love to collaborate with more schools, educators, and youth leaders who want to bring meaningful, engaging programming to their students.

We’re excited to share that our STEPP Program will be launching Hip Hop Wednesdays, featuring a songwriting class facilitated by Chadwick “Niles” Phillips 🎤✍🏾 This is one of many classes youth will be able to take as part of our Monday–Thursday youth programming.

You’ll get a special snippet of this class during our Open House, so come experience the creativity, energy, and purpose firsthand!

February is about reflection, learning, and moving forward.

We’re hosting a Black History Month Youth Workshop on February 25, creating space for youth to explore identity, leadership, and legacy.

Looking ahead, our Youth Stabilization Program (YSP) begins March 3, meeting Tuesdays from 4:00–5:30 PM for middle and high school youth. YSP focuses on financial literacy, goal-setting, and consistent mentorship.

Both opportunities are part of our commitment to supporting youth with the tools they need to thrive now and in the future.

We’re thrilled to invite you to a milestone moment for Pathways Life & Health — our Open House & Ribbon Cutting Ceremony as we officially open the doors to our new home at the YWCA!

This celebration is more than a ribbon cutting — it’s an opportunity to step inside the Pathways experience.

What to Expect

Guests will have the chance to:

Tour the youth center and walk through the program as if you were a student

Learn about the after-school programming components offered to middle and high school youth

Sign up for the after-school program on-site

Engage in hands-on activities including:

🎨 Art & creative expression

💼 Business & entrepreneurship introduction

🎙️ Podcast & media experience

✨ And more interactive stations designed to inspire purpose and possibility

Parents, caregivers, partners, and community members will get an inside look at how Pathways supports youth development through leadership, creativity, life skills, and mentorship — all within a safe, welcoming environment.

Pathways Life & Health is reaching out with a humble ask. 💙

We made a promise to our leadership students for a field trip this Wednesday, and we’re committed to keeping that promise. Unfortunately, the 12-passenger van we typically use unexpectedly broke down, leaving us without transportation—and we truly don’t want to cancel on our youth.

We are seeking transportation support for a round-trip ride from Columbia Heights to Saint Paul. If you or someone you know offers transportation services, has access to a passenger van, or is willing to help in any way, we would be incredibly grateful.

Our young people are counting on us, and we believe in the power of community stepping in when challenges arise. 🙏🏽
