🗣️ JOIN US the weekend of Juneteenth to fight back against police crimes and racist attacks on voting rights!

When: 12 PM, Saturday, June 20th
Where: Federal Plaza, Chicago IL

The recent supreme court decision gutting the Voting Rights Act is a racist attack on the fundamental democratic rights of Black people in the United States. Trump wants to take us back to the era of Jim Crow racism and disenfranchisement that was ushered in with the violent betrayal of reconstruction in 1877. But we will not go back.

Black people and all oppressed people have always fought back against racist and political repression. This Juneteenth weekend, join us in the streets to fight back and demand:
DEFEND VOTING RIGHTS!
DEFEND FAMILIES AFFECTED BY POLICE CRIMES!
FREE SURVIVORS OF TORTURE AND WRONGFUL CONVICTION!
END CPD-ICE COLLABORATION!

When voting rights are under attack, what do we do? STAND UP FIGHT BACK!

STATEMENT ON THE SUDDEN RESIGNATION OF MINNEAPOLIS POLICE CHIEF BRIAN O’HARA

Community members learned today, May 26th, about the sudden resignation of Minneapolis Chief of Police, Brian O’Hara.

In an abrupt press conference, Mayor Frey announced the chief’s resignation pending discipline for interfering in an investigation related to alleged sexual relations with city employees.

O’hara had been under third party investigation for a year due to these allegations. Frey reported in the press conference that O’Hara “interfered with the investigation process”.

Though the allegations were unsubstantiated, Frey reports he informed O’Hara he would be “disciplining [O’Hara] up to and including discharge.”

Frey continues to laud O’Hara’s performance as MPD chief, describing him as “successful in his responsibilities as chief.”

While community members and impacted family members applaud the resignation of Chief O’Hara, we regret that none of his previous failures were enough to end his tenure sooner.

Jacob Frey talks about ‘rebuilding trust’ between the community and MPD, but less than a month ago, he nominated Chief O’Hara for reappointment, despite the fact that O’Hara was under ongoing investigation for inappropriate coduct with city employees.

More importantly, O’Hara’s failures directly led to the tragic deaths of Allison Lussier and Mariah Samuels, and the shooting of Davis Moturi.

His department’s collaboration with ICE and unacceptable mismanagement of the MPD budget have all been valid reasons to demand for his removal.

We need power over the police. With community control of the police through an all-elected Civilian Police Accountability Commision, the people of Minneapolis would have been able to fire Chief O’hara for any one of these failures.

Six years since the murder of George Floyd, and Mayor Jacob Frey remains the greatest barrier to police accountability.

DEMAND CHANGE.

TCC4J asked Minneapolis Council Vice resident Jamal Osman to VOTE NO cop city (Frey calls it a “Training and Wellness Center“)

OSMAN SAYS HE’LL VOTE NO on COP CITY

"Hello Members of TCC4J -

We wanted to follow up with you about the Training and Wellness Center being proposed by the Frey Administration. First, let us thank you for reaching out to Council Vice President Jamal Osman’s office about this important issue. Residents’ voices are so critical in assessing priorities and deciding on votes.

After carefully reviewing the item, consent-decree requirements, state bonding outlook, the City’s existing property holdings, and the significant price increase on the parcel, CVP Osman will be voting NO on the $6 million property purchase authorization at this time."

More from his message to us:

"CVP Osman has consistently supported the goals of the two consent decrees, including the need for a wellness center; his vote is not fully a rejection of the of that concept: Instead, his no vote sends a clear message that the administrations current approach – lack of communication to neighbors in the area, lack of by-in from the legislative body of the city and the legislature, buying land outright before state funding or regional partnerships are secured - is premature, fiscally risky, and not the responsible path forward."

"Some specific concerns of his are: No Credible State Support currently; Significant Price Escalation Raises Serious Fiscal Questions; Risk of Adding to the City’s Growing Portfolio of Unused Property; Poor Timing and Limited Political Capital"

"CVP Jamal Osman will be voting "No" on Thursday to the land purchase."

We say Thank You !
