Project Sweetie Pie

Project Sweetie Pie Project Sweetie Pie is an urban farm movement to seed healthy changes in our community

Project Sweetie Pie seeds healthy changes in our community so that one day more than 500+ people will work in a neighborhood agricultural business and walk home to make a nutritious dinner. This vision includes: urban gardening and farming, "value-added" food production, marketing, operations, development and sales. Project Sweetie Pie is:
Hosted by AfroEco until it establishes its 501(c)3
20+ ur

ban gardens in Minneapolis
Seeding a green North Minneapolis
Supporting the YouthCafé at North High
Raising produce sold at community farmers markets
Organizing Master gardeners who are instructing kids about planting and harvesting
Inspiring community members mentoring kids on social entrepreneurism and mechanics of food distribution

Project Sweetie Pie – has impacted more than 1,000 kids and community members and has more than 250+ organizational partners. More than 2,000 sweet potatoes, tomatoes, onions, cabbage, lettuce, kale, pumpkins and peppers have been planted as part of Project Sweetie Pie. With your support (and good weather) we can create a new model for economic development in North Minneapolis and beyond.

Shout out to urban farmer Michael Chaney of Project Sweetie Pie and the many others organizing around equitable access to the Mississippi River and the 48 acres of land by the Upper Harbor Terminal.

I’m still learning ways to connect to the movement to protect our water, but Brother Chaney is a part of a great network of folks committed to centering community interests.

He says instead of further destabilizing the surrounding ecosystem with unnecessary development, we need “48 acres and a school.” Let’s make it happen, y’all!
