Railroading Heritage of Midwest America & Friends of the 261 Working hard at keeping the Milwaukee 261 and it's fleet of cars operating on the mainline's of America's Railroads for generations to come.

The Friends of the 261 is a non-profit organization, providing the rich history of steam railroading to the country. The Milwaukee Road 261 is the worlds largest coal fired engine still in operation. weighing in at just under a million pounds. Along with the engine we have a full fleet of coaches, diners, full dome, tail cars and more. Cars are available for charter and excursions are run regularl

y through out the summer season. The Friends is a 501C3 non-profit organization with a determined dedication to keep the Milwaukee Road 4-8-4 No. 261 running on the Mainline Rails & sharing it's history with not only Railfans but individuals that believe in the History of the USA. Three generations of the Sandberg family have made this possible along with all of the dedicated volunteers.
