Where boat owners, sponsors & volunteers come together in the community to provide a day on the lake for foster children, special needs children, children in residential centers, and/or homeless child. The fog was starting to lift over the hills and trees that overshadow the water allowing the sun to trickle through. The sights were serene and the peaceful sounds of nature were soothing for the so
le. In the distance the sounds of laughing children started to fill the air; drawling near it was the start of a spectacular day. For today was “Wake The World - West Virginia”. Although that was back in 2014, I can still remember it like it was yesterday. The sheer excitement of those children getting to the docks and running to one of the 10 boats waiting was life changing. You see, I grew up on a river and started skiing and tubing when I was just 3 years old, as my children have. When you get older you become numb and accustomed to that. You hear the laughter, water splashing and the excitement on an almost daily basis but until you hear it and see it from a child whose life is now changed, in some way, because they are now experiencing something they may never had the chance to do before. That’s when it truly hits you! Now in existence for over 7 years, Wake The World Organization (WTW), as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, continues to strive and expand its offerings across the country to new communities. We hope that you will be able to take part in an exciting event that we are offering this year at Lake Anna and experience firsthand the pride we take in supporting our cause. It is our mission to provide watersports opportunities to abandoned, abused, neglected and or less fortunate children. In order to meet our mission and provide services in our community, we rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistance of community-minded individuals just like you, we wouldn't be able to pull this off each year. This year on August 12, 2016, WTW brings you “Wake The World – Lake Anna”(WTWLKA) joining our fellow 33 Chapters in providing children with watersports experiences in a way they’ve never experienced them before. Founded in 2008 with just 8 families volunteering, WTW has grown to become the largest all volunteer organization of its kind. With the close of the summer season last year we have grown to over 350 volunteered boats in 27 states and have now made our mark world-wide! WTWLKA has decided to make this year’s theme “Operation Enjoying Freedom”; hosting approximately 50 children of deployed military members the chance to get out and have some fun while their loved ones are absent.
