City of Milwaukie Island Station Neighborhood District Association

City of Milwaukie Island Station Neighborhood District Association The Island Station Neighborhood District Association (NDA) is an officially recognized NDA in the City of Milwaukie.

Bordering Oak Grove at the Willamette River, this part of Milwaukie boasts the Trolley Trail, Spring Park, Elk Rock Island Park, Kellogg Creek Park, Kronberg Park, and Milwaukie Bay Park - green, historic, sustainable! A few of the most recent programs and events in the Island Station Neighborhood primarily funded by Milwaukie's Neighborhood Grant Program include:

Spring Park: Neighbors worked wi

th City staff to complete phase I of Spring Park in 2009. Located at 19th and Sparrow, the first phase of this project created a pocket park with native-compatible landscaping, play equipment, and picnic tables. Phase II will enhance the wetlands located below the formal area of the park. The neighborhood also sponsors ongoing work parties in the park, in partnership with North Clackamas Parks and Recreation, to remove invasive species and enhance the wetlands. Annual Neighborhood Picnic: Island Station sponsors an annual Neighborhood Picnic in Spring Park to unify the neighborhood residents and improve crime prevention. (Elk Rock Island is managed by a joint agreement between The City of Portland and Clackamas County.) Protection and enhancement of Elk Rock Island: Neighborhood residents been been working on habitat restoration on Elk Rock Island in conjunction with Portland Parks and Recreation. Traffic Calming: The neighborhood has been working with City staff and ODOT on several traffic calming projects along McLoughlin near River Road and 22nd Ave. The neighborhood continues to advocate for improved pedestrian facilities and traffic calming throughout the neighborhood. Anyone know what the actual plan here is?

So ODOT tore up this River Road/99E intersection a few weeks back, and hasn't done any work here at all the past two weeks. It's an inconvenience for people going through on the Trolley Trail, but it's even more of a safety hazard for anyone waiting to cross 99E at the light.
I have been expressing safety concerns to ODOT staff for two weeks now, but am told it will not be worked on until "the first week in July" which I take to mean after the 4th. If you'd like to express your safety concerns about this crossing, please email ODOT Region 1 Metro East Area Manager Paul Scarlett at [email protected].

No fireworks on Elk Rock Island or Spring Park either please!

No fireworks on Elk Rock Island or Spring Park either please!

REMINDER: All fireworks are prohibited within Milwaukie city limits. The maximum fine for a fireworks violation is $1,000. The sale of fireworks is also prohibited in Milwaukie, so if you see a fireworks stand in the area, we can pretty much guarantee it's not located within official city limits.

We're a week away from the first Bulky Waste Day! Saturday, June 13 is curbside bulky waste collection for residents on the southwest side of Milwaukie! Be sure to place all items out by 6 AM. This is a lengthy process and collection will happen throughout the day, sometimes with multiple trucks, beginning in the morning. It's important to note that this service is limited to single-family homes within Milwaukie city limits. For more info about accepted items, quantities and a mapping tool to determine a property's specific pick-up date, visit www.milwaukieoregon.gov/bulkywaste
