We have the best group of volunteers! Longtime-volunteer Diane has been in charge of the annual Bus Trip to Madison for our AFSers. She along with our other fabulous volunteers take our interested teens to Madison to hang out during the day.

It's a great way for everyone to spend time together before some start to leave this coming week. They tour the Wisconsin State Capitol building together and are then welcome to explore the Farmer's Market, shops, and eateries on State Street, enjoy the Vilas Zoo and Beach, and the UW Madison Memorial Union on Lake Mendota. Of course no trip is complete without a stop by Babcock Dairy for ice cream!

The group bumped into Governor Tony Evers who was out on his bike ride to Babcock for his treat. He enjoyed spending time talking with our students and volunteers.

Homestead AFS student Bella from Ghana presented a certificate of recognition to Homestead HS principal Eric Ebert for the school's participation in the United States Department of State Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program. Bella is here because she won a highly competitive YES scholarship that brings teen ambassadors from countries with significant Muslim populations to American high schools for a year of study.

This weekend, we’ll be featuring a takeover from hosted student Isabella! 🇬🇭

Isabella is a student from Ghana who is currently hosted in Mequon, Wisconsin by the Wilson family. She attends Homestead High School.

Check out Isabella’s posts and stories on our page tomorrow through the weekend to learn more about her experience as an exchange student with the Milwaukee Area Team in Mequon! She will be sharing about her year and answering questions about what it has been like so far to be on an AFS exchange with our team. ☺️

Isabella has said of her exchange year that it has been “soo fun” and she has met a lot of people!

It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! 🍎📚

The dedication and care of educators across the country help create welcoming classrooms where exchange students can learn, grow, and feel at home – which is why they deserve to be celebrated. During this week-long celebration, we encourage our community – and especially our exchange students – to show teachers how much we value their role in the AFS-USA network.

If you’re a student hosted in the U.S., submit a photo of you with your teacher to [email protected] and tell us how you're thanking them during this special occasion. Our winner will receive some fun goodies to give their favorite teacher! You can also bring your teachers a treat or trinket from your home country or write a thank you note.

Don’t forget to tag us on IG at ! We hope you have fun showing your teachers some love this week!

Today Cedarburg's AFS student Ireinz from Indonesia presented a certificate of recognition to Cedarburg HS principal Casey Bowe for the school's participation in the United States Department of State Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Program. Ireinz is here because she won a highly competitive YES scholarship that brings teen ambassadors from countries with significant Muslim populations to American high schools for a year of study.

Ireinz is enrolled in a full American load of classes while she has participated in two drama productions. She especially enjoys her art classes and has had her art displayed at the Cedarburg Art Museum and Pink Llama Gallery this year.

On Sunday, we had our AFS Departure Orientation! 😢🫂💙

This is the last time when ALL of our AFS MKE students get together. Our awesome volunteer team gave them advice on next steps before they head home, an opportunity to reflect on their year in the U.S., and a chance to say goodbye to some of their friends. ❤️‍🩹

Although we have a few more weeks to go and some more team activities planned, we can’t believe how fast these 9 months have flown by! Thanks to our Milwaukee Area Team Volunteers for supporting our students all year long, and thanks to our students for becoming a part of our community! 🌎🇺🇸🧀
