Last week, GCA team members attended the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary Gala, and we wanted to take a moment to share why this one matters to us.

MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary has been a lifeline in Milwaukee's Amani neighborhood for years. From their home at 2461 W. Center St., they provide food, clothing, hygiene products, blankets, and warmth to the city's unhoused population. The sanctuary isn't just a resource center. It's a place built on dignity.

GCA is currently working on the third floor of that building. We're designing a functioning aquaponics system that will support the sanctuary's food program, a classroom where future generations can learn the process, and a museum space dedicated to the history of urban agriculture right here in Milwaukee.

Projects like this are why we show up. Not just to the design work, but to the events, the conversations, and the community that makes the work meaningful. If you're not in the room, you don't fully understand what you're building.

Celebrating our 2026 grant recipients! ✨

At The Big Give, Impact100 Greater Milwaukee awarded $445,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations creating meaningful change across our community.

These grants represent the power of collective giving, the strength of our members’ commitment, and the incredible work being done by local nonprofits every day. We are honored to support this year’s recipients and excited to see the impact these grants will make throughout Greater Milwaukee.

With this year’s awards, Impact100 Greater Milwaukee has now granted over $4 million in 11 years and it is all possible because of women giving together.

Today, we celebrated a truly special investment in our community: a $100,000 award from Impact100 Greater Milwaukee that will fuel the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary Kitchen Project!

Today’s announcement is about more than a grant. It's an investment in people. It's an investment in a neighborhood. And it's an investment in the belief that I hold very deeply – that every single Milwaukee County resident deserves access to healthy food, stable housing, and the opportunity to reach their full potential.

As County Executive, I've made it a priority to work alongside community partners to address the root causes of disparities, not just manage the symptoms. And finding solutions to these challenges takes strong partnerships, innovative thinking, and a shared commitment to creating healthier, safer, and more equitable communities - one neighbor at a time.

Congratulations to Sister MacCanon-Brown and the entire team at MBHS for turning your vision into a reality. I can't wait to witness the growth and ripple effects this project will have on the community in the months, years, and generations ahead.

YOUR URGENT HELP IS NEEDED IN PREPARATION FOR OUR SUMMER TOY/FUN GIVEAWAY

We need help and support for our event Saturday, May 16th from 11 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

We do this for the children and teens of the neighborhood where we are located. Summer is coming. With Summer there is more violence.

What is true: children living in poverty and low income communities often experience trauma in the form of exposure to violence in the community, domestic violence, personal/interpersonal violence, and substance abuse.

We also offer this because many of the families cannot afford to buy items that contribute to positive Summer play.

Our event will also include the Irish band Frogwater performing.

Assured safety -- in our several years being established at 2461 W. Center St. we have never had a violent situation. We anticipate 100+ families will attend.
