Arab Muslim Women Research and Resource Institute

Arab Muslim Women Research and Resource Institute A nonprofit organization established to document Arab and Muslim women's experiences, promoting understanding of the issues that impact their lives.

The project strives to provide Americans of Arab and Muslim descent the opportunity to preserve, share, and document their life story in their own words. The ultimate goal of this project is to reinforce and strengthen the greater public’s cultural understanding of this particular
population. With better understanding, it is hoped that a greater sense of connection will be created between the Amer

ican public and its immigrant population. The project is in the process of collecting, preserving, and making available the personal audio accounts of Arab and Muslim Americans to help educate others about their experiences in their adopted country. Along with collecting first-hand accounts, the project, when feasible, gathers the following information: recorded immigrant memoirs, original photographs, letters, diaries, maps, and any other pertinent documents that highlight the experiences of immigrants from an individual and
community-wide perspective.

Whether as entrepreneurs, designers or producers, women are starting to reinterpret the role of dress and reclaiming authority over dominant, stereotypical discourses about women.”

Dr. Enaya Othman, associate professor of languages, literatures and cultures in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, has received a Fulbright Scholar Award to research women’s use of traditional dress — thob — in the Middle East. Othman will conduct archival and onsite research in Palest...
