Green Homeowners United, Forward Together Wisconsin, State Representative Supreme Moore Omokunde, and clean energy advocates are highlighting the release of a new research report showing how homeowners in Wisconsin can save money on energy costs ahead of utility rate increases and future grid demands from data centers.
“Energy costs are climbing across the United States, and Wisconsin homeowners and renters are feeling the pressure,” said Kevin Kane, chief economist for Green Homeowners United. “This research shows what actually works to help reduce consumer costs and address increased energy demand quickly and effectively.”

Green Homeowners United analyzed 200 income-qualifying energy assessments in Milwaukee and La Crosse — the most comprehensive apples-to-apples comparison of home energy efficiency savings in Wisconsin. Here’s what moves the needle most:
-Basement insulation saves homeowners an average of $173/year — and up to $550+
-Heat pump water heaters save an average of $314/year for homes with electric water heaters
-Attic insulation & air sealing saves an average of $119/year
-Air sealing alone saves an average of $64/year, and for some homes over $300
-Upgrading 38,471 homes to be energy efficient would effectively cover the energy use of a 200mw data center, and create 1,001 union jobs in the process
-Upgrading homes to be energy efficient was the second least expensive way, after wind power, to source the amount of power needed for the data center(s). Less than nuclear, coal, natural gas and solar/storage!

“This research shows that we can create good-paying union jobs, help families save money on their utility bills, reduce carbon emissions, and strengthen our energy grid all at the same time,” said Peter Drummond, executive director of Forward Together Wisconsin.

We all have clean energy goals, right? Next week will be a GREAT week for upping your game! Of course there’s our lunch and learn on the 19th>>>>
but put this webinar, by https://www.cleanegroup.org on your calendar too (May 21, 2 to 3 pm)!

“To meet its emissions reduction targets and decarbonization goals, Massachusetts – like many states – is working towards the electrification of its building and transportation sectors.

While these efforts will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, electrification will also increase the region’s electric demand, which is projected to double from 2020 levels by 2050. This, in turn, could lead to a new round of investment in fossil fuel generation.

A new report prepared by the Applied Economics Clinic on behalf of Clean Energy Group and Vote Solar makes the case that behind-the-meter solar and solar paired with storage systems are an underutilized but essential key to meeting Massachusetts’ rising electricity demand cleanly, affordably and equitably – and that, with the right program and policy adjustments, clean behind-the-meter resources could offset increases in demand, rendering new fossil fuel investments unnecessary.”

Grab your lunch and join us for our virtual Lunch and Learn!

Forward Together is hosting Dan Herscher, Solar Energy Consultant with Carlson Electric and Doug Detlaff, Program Consultant with Focus on Energy. Together, they’ll walk participants through the basics of solar energy, how to plan and implement a solar project, financing options, and the incentives and programs currently available to homeowners and businesses.

Whether you’re just starting to explore solar or ready to take the next step, this webinar is designed to provide practical information and resources to help Wisconsinites make informed energy decisions. It’s also part of a broader effort to ensure climate and infrastructure investments in Wisconsin are effective, accessible, and equitable for communities across the state.

Important webinar opportunity today!
“WASHINGTON—The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hydrocarbons and Geothermal Energy Office and Office of Indian Energy today announced up to $11.3 million in federal funding available to institutions of higher education, including up to $2.3 million exclusively for Tribal Colleges and Universities, to train the next generation of America’s energy workforce. The Partnerships for Academic-Industry Career Training (PACT) Initiative will facilitate the development of hands-on training and credentialling programs in skillsets supporting the production of natural gas, oil, coal, and geothermal energy by establishing regional academic-industry consortia. These efforts support a federal commitment to establish America’s energy dominance by developing a highly skilled workforce focused on strengthening U.S. energy resilience and supplies.”

What some may call energy dominance, Wisconsin’s Tribal Nations have seen as energy sovereignty in alignment with their commitment to sustainable practices. These efforts have been ahead of the curve for decades. Wisconsin tribal nations are actively advancing geothermal and renewable energy to achieve this energy sovereignty and reduce carbon emissions. Tribes like the Menominee, Forest County Potawatomi, and Oneida are leading localized initiatives, leveraging ground-source heat pumps and biomass, supported by federal funding and state programs.

From MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — “The sun was not shining Wednesday, April 29, but solar energy was on the minds of Milwaukee’s leaders at the district three police station.
That’s where Mayor Cavalier Johnson announced the ‘Grow Solar’ campaign, encouraging homeowners and utilities to invest in the power of the sun.

This particular police station was chosen because they’ve just finished installing solar panels on the roof.

“We need to look at all the resources, such as the solar panels on top of the building. We also have put in LED lights, leaned into the renewable hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, understanding our commitment to be part of this project, part of this effort.” said Milwaukee Police Chief Jeffery Norman

‘Grow Solar’ is a group-buying and education program designed to make going solar easier in Milwaukee.”

Thank you for your forward-thinking leadership!
We believe, right along with you, that we can all move Forward Together Wisconsin!
