In our latest podcast we’re excited to highlight our recent conversation with Dr. Julia Doss, a highly experienced clinical psychologist and leader in the field of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures (PNES).

Dr. Doss is the owner and director of the Doss Clinic of Health Psychology, where she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of PNES and related functional disorders. With over 20 years of clinical experience—particularly in pediatric populations—she has dedicated her career to supporting patients and families navigating these complex conditions.

Her work spans research, clinical care, and education. Dr. Doss has published in scientific journals, authored book chapters, co-authored two key texts (Pediatric Psychogenic NonEpileptic Seizures: A Guide and The Psychogenic Non-epileptic Seizure Pocketbook with Dr. Lorna Myers), and presented nationally and internationally. She has also held leadership roles, including Chair of the Pediatric Non-epileptic Seizure SIG at the American Epilepsy Society, and currently serves as a steward for the NINDS/NIH task force on epilepsy comorbidities.

In this discussion, we explore:
• Her pathway into FND
• Differences and similarities between pediatric and adult FND
• The role of family in pediatric care
• Perspectives on terminology and FND subtypes
• Access to psychological services and treatment models
• Practical insights for clinicians working with PNES

Dr. Doss also shares her passion for clinician education, including a new online training program developed with Dr. Myers to support providers treating PNES across the lifespan.

This was an insightful and engaging conversation with a deeply knowledgeable and dedicated clinician.
