Here we go again.

So your kid wants to race cyclocross?! Until recently, that meant adding a little air to the tires on their mountain bike and sending them out on course. Then waiting maybe 3 to 5 years for that growth spurt to hit, before finally slamming the seatpost into a “small” adult sized frame.

For as long as ‘cross has been around, 700c wheels have been the standard. They roll fast over rough terrain, carry momentum, and open the door to a nearly endless selection of race-ready wheels and tires. The problem, of course, if that the bikes attached to those wheels have traditionally been way to big for the smallest would-be riders.

Enter, HUP Competition Cycling | .

Their 37cm Evo SL CX bike manages to wrap true kid-sized geometry around full-size 700c wheels. And suddenly, there’s never been a better time to be 8 years old!

The frame is a start, but it’s the complete kid focused build that really makes it possible for riders as small as 4’1” to take advantage of big wheels.

Does any kid need this? No, of course not. And can they fall in love with cyclocross on a $250 bike from Facebook marketplace? Yes, of course!
But are these bikes ridiculously fun to build and unbelievably fast to ride? Also yes. 🙂‍↕️

Another excellent week in the Adirondacks capped off with some World Cup inspired XCO racing at Mt. Van Hoevenberg! Thea and Colby earned top finishes in the girls and boys junior categories after another week of adventures in the mountains surrounding Lake Placid. The updated track for October’s WHOOP UCI Mountain Bike World Series is almost finished and looking better than ever!

After hosting to the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics, it was a treat to get to visit some of these historic venues, and meet some of the folks working to bring the games back to the Adirondacks in 2042! 🤞🇺🇸

Blue Hills girls are keeping the party going this summer at some of the most fun events New England has to offer! Lily, Olivia, and Violet were on start lines recently at the Zig Zig XC in Massachusetts and Livermore Challenge in New Hampshire’s White Mountains.

Strong girls that just keep getting stronger. We love to see it! 💙🏁

Left the bikes, kept the mountains!

Blue Hills riders traveled out of New England this week for a few days of backpacking in New York’s Adirondack High Peaks region. Twenty miles of backcountry adventure capped off with the 4,960ft summit of Mount Haystack!

A moment of appreciation for all the folks out there prioritizing the experience for kids! Thank you for not compromising in your designs, and for giving kids bikes the thoughtful engineering that they deserve. Where others try and shrink their full sized bikes to accommodate small riders, HUPcc builds kid specific platforms from the ground up. Even amongst the other kid focused brands, their attention to detail and focus on getting kids on bigger wheels keeps them a step ahead.

Their size extra small XC 27.5 frame has given the youngest and smallest riders on our team the confidence, traction, and rollover capabilities to ride anything, anywhere, with anyone. And with the right geometry and a fit that works with and not against them, these kids are so much more likely to fall in love with riding and stay on bikes for years to come!

The girls were back in action this weekend at the ! Jeff and the team out in Marshfield have created one of the most fun trail systems anywhere in Massachusetts. The flowy, costal trails are a must ride for anyone here on the south shore.

Lizzy, Eleanor, Thea, and Dharma tackled nearly 1,400ft of climbing in their 13 mile Junior Girls race, while Colby flew the flag for Blue Hills Devo in the boys field!

No more school, so much more summer, and so many more opportunities to play bikes with friends!
