Are we in the last days?

In the last days(2 Timothy 3:1-5), people will be:
- lovers of themselves
- lovers of money
- boastful
- proud
- abusive
- disobedient to their parents
- ungrateful
- unholy
- devoid of love
- unforgiving
- slanderous
- without self
- control
- brutal
- not lovers of the good
- treacherous
- rash
- conceited
- lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God

These characteristics will be prevalent, even among those who claim to be religious. Many will say, “I am a Christian. I have God in my life. I go to church regularly.” However, those who outwardly display their Christianity while inwardly denying the power of the Holy Spirit through a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ will also reflect these traits.
*An example of the power of the Holy Spirit is found in Acts 1:8.

FOR THE SAKE OF THE FUTURE:

As I was heading home, I noticed children idling on the street, and I couldn’t help but feel sorrow for the future of our beloved country. Those who should be in school, preparing for roles as future leaders, are slowly wasting away on the streets.

Admittedly, some of these children find themselves there due to unfortunate circumstances such as war, displacement, and economic downturns. As the economic situation worsens, I fear that even more children will be out of school and on the streets.

Let’s help keep children in school. Donate today and raise tomorrow’s leaders. Let their potential bloom. Unlock their future today by donating to Undying Hope International (UHI)

Development and prosperity have become mere songs we sing and words we utter, an illusion we imagine.

Engaging in sinful behavior has consequences if we do not repent. Manasseh became king at the young age of 12 and ruled Jerusalem for 55 years. During his reign, he did evil in the sight of the Lord. He rebuilt all the idols that his father, Hezekiah, had destroyed and even brought an Asherah image, a representation of a pagan deity, into God's house. Furthermore, he led others in committing these acts of wickedness.

Driving it Home

My people,
Confession is a path to a better future. We, South Sudanese, have done wrong in the sight of the Lord. In today’s world, Asherah could be anything we hold higher and more important than God.

Our modern-day Asherah could be corruption, tribalism, or other forms of selfishness and immorality.

A select few have embezzled our country’s resources, and much precious blood has been shed in cold blood since South Sudan gained independence in 2011.

Development and prosperity have become mere songs we sing and words we utter, an illusion we imagine.

Unfortunately, this select few made it possible for others, particularly the youth—the backbone of our country and its future—to indulge in corruption and tribalistic behavior.

That said, God is merciful and can forgive us if we repent and do good in His sight. Our past is behind us, and we cannot change it; our future lies ahead. However, we have today.

Let us prioritize our country and our people above all else.

Together, let’s work to build our struggling and wounded nation!

Leadership Lessons from Bible Characters:

King Hezekiah feared the Lord and did what was right in God’s sight. He brought hope to the people of Israel and sought to please God. Unlike his father, King Ahaz, who did evil in the eyes of the Lord, King Hezekiah followed in the footsteps of King David.

While some of the previous kings had removed the high places and lived righteously before the Lord, King Hezekiah implemented significant reforms: "He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones, and cut down the Asherah poles..." (2 Kings 18:4).

Driving it home:

As South Sudanese, we need to walk in the Spirit, listen to God's voice, and obey Him. South Sudan is in dire need of peace and stability, along with a permanent constitution and robust institutional reforms to promote transparency, enforce accountability, and eradicate corruption. Achieving this requires critical, decisive decisions rooted in trust in God and a commitment to embody His guidance. While such reforms don't guarantee that we won't face difficulties or that we will prosper materially, they do give hope and ensure a better tomorrow. It means we will be able to reap the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

Leadership Lessons from Bible Characters:

2 Timothy is one of the letters that Paul wrote while he was in prison, where he was chained and endured suffering. Paul firmly believes that God's word is not chained and thus people need to hear the gospel.

He encourages Timothy not to be afraid to be associated with Jesus, but to embrace God's grace and pass on these qualities to faithful men who can teach others. To achieve this, Paul urges Timothy to hold firmly to sound teachings and not to be ashamed of following Christ. This reflects the essence of delegation and the importance of leaving a positive legacy.

Driving it home:

Background and attitude are critical factors in effective leadership. Finding faithful, reliable, and trustworthy individuals with a strong background and the right attitude is challenging. However, by carefully reviewing CVs and assigning small responsibilities, one can assess how a person is likely to perform in larger roles.

President Kiir has been seeking solutions, yet he continues to reappoint individuals who have previously failed in their positions. Entrusting these individuals with cabinet roles and other important positions will not lead to positive change. As a result, his leadership has not been successful, and his legacy is questionable.

Placing the wrong people in key positions leads them to view their roles as opportunities to misappropriate public resources. These individuals often engage in nepotism, tribalism, and various forms of corruption, repeating these harmful behaviors each time they assume a leadership role.

Conversely, those with strong backgrounds, the right attitude, and proven track records can be trusted to handle significant responsibilities. Unfortunately, President Kiir has struggled to make this important distinction, hindering South Sudan's economic progress and infrastructure development.

Our earthly desires can sometimes lead us away from God. Although we all make mistakes as human beings, our conscience reminds us that relying solely on our own desires is insufficient and will not bring us closer to God. To please God, it is essential to pray constantly, especially when we are tempted to succumb to our urges.
