George Stines Haiti Scholarship Program Just up the mountain from Jacmel, Haiti, lies a magical place called Bassin Bleu. It is here our story begins. People must pay to send their children to school.

It's lush mountain views and famous waterfall frame the stunning backdrop of the home of some wonderful people. And if you think the views are beautiful......you should to meet the residents! Though poverty surrounds them and very hard work, you will not meet a happier bunch! Education in Haiti is not a right it is a priviledge. This is a real struggle for so many. They know that it is their child's only hope but have no means. We are coming to their rescue. We are offering scholarships to children in need. We have aligned ourselves with a wonderful school in Bassin Bleu that educates children in their beginning years. With the help of Elysee Guerrier who runs the school we sponsor children that cannot afford the tuition. Our program matches a sponsor from our country to a individual student. The sponsor in turn pays for the child's tuition and follows their progress(believe it or not it is only $150 a year).Please follow our story with this page and feel free to contact us if you have questions or would like to join.

So things are not settling down in Port Au Prince. Wallas sent me some tragic news. He knew a little girl who's dad went into the city and was kidnapped and killed on his way home to Jacmel. Senseless.... The little girl's family of course is devastated, and their only breadwinner was now gone. He sent me her picture and said please could we find her a sponsor. We said of course. And just like that Ellen from MI appeared and wanted to sponsor a child. Great timing!!! We are grateful to be able to help a little. Her name is Jessica Laurent. She is a little one. But children in Haiti start school at 3 years old.

Good Morning..rainy day here. I wanted to post a couple of pics that show you how even one-time donations can make a difference. Here you see are a couple of special children that we have been sponsoring for some time. They started out at Modern school but since both lost their fathers their families had to move to Jacmel to either be by other helping family members or for work. Even though they have moved we still sponsor them at their new schools. They are still very much in need. Wallas goes to the new school and pays the tuition. We have several children like this. Thank goodness for Wallas! Anyway our sponsors pay for a child's tuition. It is up to the families to buy uniform and school supplies. Well these 2 little boys' families we know personally and know for a fact they did not even have enough money for uniform and supplies. They said they could not afford anything and their children cannot go. Because we have donors throughout the year that donate without sponsoring, we had enough money to tell Wallas to take them to store and buy them what they need. They were so happy. So yes even if you know someone that just wants to make one-time donations..even $10 can make a difference. Good Morning...Staying inside away from the smoke and thought I would write a note. I am now in the middle of billing for fall semester 2026-2027. The cost is the same, $200 for the year. Crazy isn't it? How you can make a big difference in someone's life for only $200!! But that is what a year of education costs at Modern School in Bassin Bleu, Haiti. I have heard and believe that education is the number one investment in a third world country to make change.
We have been operating this program for over 12 years and are so proud of what we (meaning all of you) have accomplished. Many of our students have graduated high school and have earned scholarships to local universities. We hope to grow those numbers. Many of you have been with us from the beginning. Some of our sponsors have dropped off for different reasons. Others have joined in to sponsor new children that we have taken on or children whose sponsors have dropped. I want to say WELCOME to all of you newbies!! This is and has been a great ride. We are always, always, looking for new sponsors. So, if you know anyone send them our way. The more sponsors we have the more children we can educate. Education leads to change for all!! Here are pictures of children and that our new sponsors are taking on. Well another wonderful day at Modern School yesterday. It was the second graduation. Here are pictures of the 2026 Graduation Class. We sponsored 5 of the 8 graduates. Hats off to all of them. They worked hard for 13 years....many walking miles to attend school every day. But their perseverance paid off.

Here is picture of Paul and Wallas. Paul has gone on many, many trips with Fredo and Joan throughout the years. On this particularly grueling travel trip I can honestly say that we would not be able to make it without him. Also...he has a big heart. Him and his wife Josenie sponsor 3 children at the school!!
