George Stines Haiti Scholarship Program

George Stines Haiti Scholarship Program Just up the mountain from Jacmel, Haiti, lies a magical place called Bassin Bleu. It is here our story begins. People must pay to send their children to school.

It's lush mountain views and famous waterfall frame the stunning backdrop of the home of some wonderful people. And if you think the views are beautiful......you should to meet the residents! Though poverty surrounds them and very hard work, you will not meet a happier bunch! Education in Haiti is not a right it is a priviledge. This is a real struggle for so many. They know that it is their child

's only hope but have no means. We are coming to their rescue. We are offering scholarships to children in need. We have aligned ourselves with a wonderful school in Bassin Bleu that educates children in their beginning years. With the help of Elysee Guerrier who runs the school we sponsor children that cannot afford the tuition. Our program matches a sponsor from our country to a individual student. The sponsor in turn pays for the child's tuition and follows their progress(believe it or not it is only $150 a year). Please follow our story with this page and feel free to contact us if you have questions or would like to join.

Well, I have some news. Paul, Fredo, Joan, and myself just came back from Haiti!! It was a great but difficult trip. We went because someone very close to Fredo died and he wanted to make sure he made it to her funeral. She had a good life and died at age 104. Because if gangs we did not fly into Porta Prince but flew first to Cap Haitian, then to Les Cayes, then drove to the mountain. It was a long and grueling trip. But in the end we made it and attended a very nice funeral. We also visited the school and I got a lot of pictures. I will send more in the days to come. I am still acclimating to being back. But the school is doing awesome. There are now over 300 children attending! Of course there are also many on waiting list. Times are still very tough there. Jacmel as well as the mountain have always relied on tourists and there are none. One day we went to a beautiful hotel in Jacmel for lunch. In one of the pictures today I will post a picture of a view from the hotel. Anyway the hotel had no guests, swimming pool was closed down, and we were the only ones eating there. This is the best hotel in Jacmel! But the population has increased. We assumed many people are fleeing Porta Prince. We learned one of the main gang leaders, Barbecue, was taken out by a drone. Some say he escaped and is hiding out in Dominion Republic. We don't know. But at least he is gone and not causing chaos. Here are some pictures for you. First Is the picture of the view of the restaurant. Haiti is quite beautiful. Then we have Wallas and family, one with all of us at Fredo's house, 2 school pictures, Aissa Alexander and Elysee and Joan(Aissa is sponsored by Marta and Wendall of FL), and a picture of the wonderful ladies that cooked our meals.

Here is another one of our students that graduated with honors from Modern School and was granted a scholarship, Kenlove Bongard:
Kenlove graduated from HHH’s sponsored Moderne School of
Savanette. He is entering the University of Notre Dame of Haiti in Jacmel to study economics and accounting.

“I thank you for offering me this opportunity to continue my studies. From a very young age, I was taught that education is the key to everything. For this reason, and many others, I wish to continue my studies to go further in what I started at school. I want to learn more, discover new things, and above all, prepare myself for a career that I enjoy. That is why I want to pursue my studies in economics and then specialize in accounting. I know that the job market demands many more skills, and I want to give myself a much better chance of success. From my experience, it's not just about sitting in a classroom, but also about growing, gaining confidence and maturity. I want to learn much more in my life, and this opportunity would give me the chance to become the person I've dreamed of being since I was a child. After graduation, I will be an asset to my country, contributing to financial aid efforts and finding employment. I would also like to help others, perhaps by training or mentoring their projects. I want my studies to be truly useful in life, not just on paper.”

Here is Rose Mania Laurent who also graduated. By the way...if you wish to contribute to "Hands Helping Haiti Scholarship Fund" to help provide more scholarships for our sponsored children, here is link. Even a few dollars helps: https://handshelpinghaiti.givingfuel.com/scholarship-program

Rose Mania
Rose also graduated from HHH’s sponsored Moderne School of Savanette . She will be entering medicine at the Episcopal University of Haiti (UNEPH).
I want to continue my studies because I am convinced that knowledge is the key to acting, understanding, and helping effectively. My goal is to become a doctor, a profession that requires rigorous and in-depth training. Continuing my university studies is therefore an essential step for me to acquire the necessary scientific and human skills, but also to develop myself personally and one day contribute to the well-being of the most vulnerable. I hope to use my skills and knowledge to help disadvantaged people, particularly in areas where access to care is particularly difficult. My goal is to become an engaged physician capable of caring for patients but also supporting them in all aspects of their health. I also wish to participate in prevention and health education actions, in order to contribute to improving the quality of life of the population.”

Good Morning. Many of you wonder what happens when our children graduate. Well many go onto college to continues their studies. They do so with scholarships. Those scholarships are only given to gifted and hard working students. Those scholarships are provided by either the state or in this case "Hands Helping Haiti". Here is Davenchy Joseph a top student that we sponsored at Modern School that graduated last year:

Davenchy is among the first graduating class from the HHH’s sponsored Moderne School of Savanette. He will be entering his first year of medicine at the Episcopal University of Haiti (UNEPH).

My ambition is to become a competent and committed doctor, close to the reality of the Haitian people. Studying medicine is not only about acquiring theoretical knowledge but also about preparing to save lives, prevent diseases and strengthen our health system, which is too often neglected in my country, Haiti. Once I graduate, I plan to actively contribute to my country’s healthcare system and establish myself as a doctor in disadvantaged areas where quality professionals are scarce. I also want to participate in awareness campaigns for long-term mobile clinics and provide training for other young people in the healthcare field.
