🏈🏀 : Meet Scot Taylor!
For Scot Taylor, officiating football and basketball is about so much more than making the right call. It’s about staying connected to the sports he loves, building friendships, and being part of a brotherhood of officials.
Scot got his start thanks in part to neighbors and former neighbors Bob Miliam, Paul Binns, Ken Faber, and Harry Crane. Since then, officiating has given him plenty of memorable moments, including his first football playoff assignment at Orem High School in 2018.
“I was incredibly nervous and determined not to waste the opportunity I had been given. I quickly learned that by focusing on my mechanics and staying locked in on my coverage area for each play, the rest of the game became much easier to manage.”
His advice for other officials? Find strong mentors. Having experienced officials who can offer advice, review plays, and share what they’ve learned is one of the best ways to grow.
Most importantly, Scot gives credit to the people supporting him from the sidelines, his wife and kids. ❤️ Their support allows him to continue doing something he truly loves.
And while Scot jokes that the athletes stay 16–18 years old while he keeps getting older, he’s more determined than ever to stay in shape and keep officiating for years to come!
