This backup communications exercise from April 2026 has just published its after-action report and improvement plan.

We had 16 exercise participants in the RI/CT/MA area.

Key areas cited for attention include:
(1) hold net control workshops focused on high-volume traffic management and alternate frequency operations
(2) develop a standardized "Situation Status" reporting template and having scheduled updates during an exercise
(3) using more concise voice transmissions and appropriate use of written message systems
(4) standardizing terminology, phonetics, message priorities
(5) develop/use local tactical call signs
