We could not let the month pass by without giving a social media shout out to our September Employee of the Month, Frank "Fresh" Coverdale!
Fresh, also known as Frank from the Food Bank, started his career here as a part-time driver more than two decades ago.
“It was in the summer of 2004 when we were doing the kids’ meals,” he recalled. “I asked my boss if I could take the leftover meals to the hood, that’s what I call it, or to people living in motels.”
At the time, Fresh also worked as a bus driver for an alternative school. The summer gig sparked an idea that would make history for our organization. He asked about getting a truck to deliver the meals, and the Kraft Foods-donated vehicle became the Food Bank’s first mobile pantry.
Fresh's childhood was filled with many challenges; today he realizes those early challenges helped shape his success. They gave him an almost innate ability to connect with neighbors from all walks of life, something he considers one of the most rewarding parts of his job.
“I love what I’m doing. I have a job where I talk all day. It suits me,” he laughed. “When I first started, I had the whole state. I can say I’ve seen every hood in the state.”
Fresh’s passion, dedication, and ability to connect with our neighbors embody the mission of the Food Bank of Delaware. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition.
