Lower Swatara Lions Club proudly presents our 2026 Teacher of the Year Award to Middletown Area Middle School teacher Justin Smith. Mr Smith is a Middletown High School graduate and has taught at Middletown for 20 years after graduating from West Chester University.
Middletown Area Middle School Principal Dr Shannon Wevodau writes: “We are excited to recommend Mr. Justin Smith for 2026 Teacher of the Year. He truly makes a difference in our school and district every single day through the many roles he takes on and the positive impact he has on everyone around them.
Mr. Smith is someone who wears many hats and does it all with care, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to students and staff. No matter what is needed, he is always willing to step up, help out, and support others. From working directly with students to collaborating with colleagues and communicating with families, Mr. Smith consistently goes above and beyond.
What stands out most is the strong relationships he builds with students, parents, and coworkers. Students know they are supported, respected, and encouraged in his classroom. Parents appreciate his communication and dedication, and colleagues value his teamwork, positivity, and willingness to share ideas and lend a hand whenever needed.
Mr. Smith is also a natural leader in our school. He leads by example through hard work, positivity, and a true passion for education. His influence reaches far beyond the classroom and helps create a supportive and welcoming environment for both students and staff.
Simply put, Mr. Smith represents the very best of what it means to be an educator and to be a Raider. He makes our school a better place, and we cannot think of anyone more deserving of this recognition.”
Congratulation, Mr Smith, on being awarded our Teacher of the Year Award.
