National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR) The National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR) is the the trade association for the PET plastic packaging industry in North America.

NAPCOR was founded in 1987 as the National Association for Plastic Container Recovery, with a mission to ensure that plastic bottles made it into the growing number of curbside recycling programs. The organization evolved to focus specifically on PET, becoming the National Association for PET Container Resources in 1998. PET's recyclability and ability to incorporate recycled content has been key to its growth in the marketplace. To that end, NAPCOR has worked to:
- Facilitate a domestic processing infrastructure for postconsumer PET
- Build sustainable recycled PET end markets
- Invest or leverage over $100 million to increase recycling collection
- Provide outreach and education to encourage PET recycling around the country

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is the fully recyclable plastic identified with the #1 inside the recycling triangle โ™ณ, FDA-approved for beverage bottles and food packaging for 40+ years.

And new NAPCOR research shows that using recycled PET (rPET) to make new products generates 59% fewer greenhouse gas emissions than using virgin (new) PET.

The catch? ๐–๐ž ๐œ๐š๐ง'๐ญ ๐ซ๐ž๐œ๐ฒ๐œ๐ฅ๐ž ๐ฐ๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐ฐ๐ž ๐๐จ๐ง'๐ญ ๐œ๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ž๐œ๐ญ.

Our new blog post explores how strengthening PET bottle collection, sorting, and recycling infrastructure is interconnected and reduces emissions, supports domestic manufacturing, and builds a more circular economy.

It also highlights findings from PET Forward: A Decarbonization Roadmap for the PET Packaging Value Chain, which identifies a pathway to reduce total annual emissions from the PET beverage bottle systems studied by about 42% by 2050, even as production grows.

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles and containers have been safely used as packaging for beverages, food, personal care products, and household items since the introduction of the first PET bottle in the 1970s. PET remains approved for food contact by the FDA and regulatory authorities worldwide.

PET plastic also has an established mechanical bottle-to-bottle recycling system.
