Today at 11:24 Monroe Township Volunteer Fire Company #1 responded along with Fire Districts 2 and 3 to the report of a chimney fire in the Whittingham senior development. First arriving units found a heavy smoke condition inside the residence. Further investigation found that a chimney fire had extended partially into the attic space. A hand line was stretched from Ladder 23. Crews from Ladder 23 and Ladder 8 operated in the interior. Engine 51 arrived and was tasked with hooking up to the nearby hydrant and supplying Ladder 23 with water. Engine 51’s crew went to the roof to remove the smoldering chimney. They also cut the roof open to check for any further extension. Also on scene operating was Tower 51, Tower 57, and a RIT team from Plainsboro Fire Department-Station 49. Thank you to Jamesburg Fire Department for standing by in quarters to cover the town for any other calls.
